We go regularly for coffee as well as something to eat. Run by Dominic and his wife Marylene. Terrific couple who have found an ideal spot literally a minute away from the centre of down. Good for coffee or a drink. Marylene is also very good in the kitchen. So lovely meals upstairs in the small restaurant area, as well as downstairs in the cafe/bar area. And in the summer, there's plenty of space outside. Definitely worth a visit.

We had the beef brochettes with chips and a croque Monsieur which were both delicious. We sat outside on the terrace watching the passers by on a balmy evening. You are not rushed and the prices are very reasonable. The restaurant is well situated in the main square of Chinon. I also had a crepe with caramel sauce and ice cream which was very tasty and not expensive - also all the wines are chinon wines so of very good quality and not expensive.

The three of us each chose from the plats du jour - I had a steak, my partner a quiche of tomato and scallops and the lad had duck. All were delicious (as was the house wine). I forget the cost but I don't think any of the dishes were above €9 (not bad considering what we had).

We had a shady spot outside - good for people watching. There were several other British parties there but also a lot of office workers stopping by. There were clearly a number of regulars, which is generally a good sign and adds to the atmosphere.

After visitng the fortress in Chinon we took the elevator down to the town for lunch. This proved to be a near perfect dining experience. We arrived around noon and were immediately seated. By 1PM the café was full downstairs but there still appeared to be upstairs seating. There are also tables outside weather permitting though it was raining and cold on our day there. We had two plats du jour: shrimp in a crayfish sauce with rice at 9€ and duck confit with lentils at 8€! Our son got a croque-madame sandwich. All dishes were absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. The wines were also excellent. Staff was efficient and friendly. We didn't hear any English but in a town like Chinon I would imagine that all the staff speaks enough to get you through the ordering process. This was a superb value and this establishment is HIGHLY recommended.
