“Wonderful site”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 June 2012

This is a very unique peaceful place.
The Chateau has gracious spacious salons and dining rooms,do not miss the collection of locally produced late XIX century porcelain.
The surrounding park is huge, follow the trails above the hotel and discover the pond full of pink water lilies
The restaurant is well appointed and tables are far apart background music mercifully low and unobstrusive.
The food attempts unequally to match the setting
Staff uniformly helpful and gracious

We stayed for two nights at the Chateau Rochcotte as part of our Insight tour and it was much more than expected. From the moment we stepped into the reception area of this beautiful hotel we were mesmerised by the authentic and gracious surroundings. It was truly history coming to life and the best part of all is that we are the ones enjoying being Chateau guests! The grounds are tranquil and beautiful with a 200 year old cedar tree right at the front. This cedar is home to a small grey cuckoo who woke us each morning with it's unique call. We believe each room is unique and on this occasion received the room on the first floor which had large French windows which opened onto a small balcony with a view of this grand old tree. The room was tastefully decorated in the style of the day and as mentioned previously the modern amenities are hidden behind original doors that look like closet doors. In addition to a haidryer and tv, this grand old lady offers a complimentary coffee and tea making facility in the room and totally free wifi! Although there is no fridge (Aussies always look for a fridge) the staff are very willing to provide a bucket of ice. We ate breakfast each morning in the bright and beautiful breakfast room and explored the lounge, library and games room to study the amazing collection of antiques in each room. The terrace was an awesome place for drinks before dinner. There are two points that need to be said however. Number one is that I too smelt the 'cat wee' in our allocated room which actually woke me up, it was quite distressing. I noticed later that afternoon that it also seemed to be in the reception area and no longer obvious in the room. We have put it down to the tree outside, but it would be a good idea for the owners just to check over number 8 just in case. We would love to recommend a stay to our friends in Aus if we could be sure this had been addressed. The food as mentioned previously is of a high standard with wines to match.

I stayed here for 2 nights, as part of a tour with Insight Vacations. Travelling solo means I sometimes end up with the Potter-esque tiny room under the stairs. Not in this Beautiful Chateau! All the rooms are different (and all of our tour group couldn't wait to race around and see who had what!). Mine had 2 sets of beautiful french doors that overlooked a courtyard, and I also had a private rooftop courtyard out the back. Beautiful bathrooms, and bathrobes. Service impeccable. Staff ever so helpful. A note to other Insight Vacation travellers on the Normandy, Brittany, and Loire Valley tour: your tour guide will encourage you to join a dinner tonight away from the hotel. They will tell you there is nowhere around to have dinner. And will really try and do The Sell to get you to book their optional dinner. The dinner is VERY expensive and VERY ordinary. All day the tour guide will point you to a beautiful castle nearby and say "For those of you taking the optional dinner, that is where we will be for dinner tonight." The castle is NOT where you will be for dinner. You will be down the road a 100 metres, in a large, dull dining room. ALL of us who attended this dinner were very disappointed, and felt cheated. We all wished we had bought something to eat during the day, and a bottle of wine, to sit outside on the Chateau lawns that evening, rather than having to go out. Those who ate at the Chateau, described their meals as "Superb." The meal that we had there, included in the tour, was sensational. Breakfasts were the best I had in France.

Room Tip: All the rooms are beautiful, and all have something special. If you have difficulty negotiating sta...

I've just read the awful negative review from Miss mf of Los Angeles 23.7.11 and, quite honestly, I have never read such rubbish in my life ! I first discovered "Rochecotte" in 1989 and have been returning ever since, in fact, in 2004 I arranged our wedding there with over 50 guests from all over the world captivated by this sumptuous hotel..Also, over the past ten years, my company, Classic Car Tours International, has been using Rochecotte on all our French classic and modern sports car tours. We have taken hundreds of our clients there and, without exception, all of them have been impressed and charmed by the place. In 2012 we have already booked Rochecotte for seven of our car tours. In reading Miss mf's review I can only assume that she must have been on "a trip" of another kind during her stay ! To claim that the outdoors smell and that the sun is blocked out by clouds of sulphur from the EDF nuclear site 8 miles away quite literally sounds to me as if she was hallucinating during her "trip" ! As for her claim that the rooms had their heyday 25 years ago this is typical nonsense as the majority of the reviews prove. Rochecotte is set in the heart of the beautiful Loire Valley, a UNESCO world heritage site and gems such as Langeais, Azay le Rideau, Chinon, Usse and Villandry are all less than 20 minutes away so to dismiss the area as she does demonstrates her insular, befuddled perspective.Methinks that the Los Angeles smog has affected Miss MF's sense of judgement as well as her sense of smell !

Room Tip: There are approximately 32 rooms of various sizes and prices.Personally I prefer the rooms overlooki...

Stayed here in September as part if Insight Vacations bus tour.
I can only repeat what has already been written about this fantastic 250 year old Hotel. There are not sufficient adjectives in the English language to describe the opulunce of the building and the furnishings, to say nothing of the simply exquisite grounds.
One little quirk was it was the first Hotel I have ever stayed in where the wardrobe was actually in the bathroom!!!!! I guess it only added to the magic and majesty of the Hotel. I found as others did, that English was spoken well. I personally thought the staff to be a bit aloof and not easy to engage in a conversation. However, I do admit that there were only a very few of them and thet were always very busy.
Overall I rated this hotel 9/10 and would have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone. I only wish that I could return there again one day. I have not rated location below, as the Hotel is certainly in a strange location, right in the middle of nowhere! You must have a car to stay there.

Reached after an unforgettable drive through the Loire Valley with its chateaux, this hotel is like a wonderful dream!! Set in lush established and well-manicured gardens it is an extensive historic building in the French style. The public rooms are magnificently furnished and our bedroom was sumptuous with views from the French doors over the lovely countryside. The large bathroom was modern and functional. Delicious breakfasts were served in an airy, cheerful room, drinks on an exquisite terrace and our evening meal in a wonderfully formal setting. The staff were always friendly and helpful...nothing was ever too much trouble. You'll be really pampered when you stay at the Chateau de Rochecotte!!

We booked a tour with Sentiers de France and they took us to Rochecotte, a place to die for. We had a lovely welcome at the reception by one lady and the house cat. Our room was studendously decorated and there was a huge bathroom with a water massage in the bathtub. We sat outside on a lovely terrace and the lady from the reception carried us out drinks up there although she was very busy. The food was delicious, the breakfast perfect and we only regretted we had only one night there.
