We stayed at the Knight Cottage (le Gite du Chevalier) of l'Argentier du Roy for an all too brief week in May 2014.  The apartment is incredible, the description on the website does not mislead.  We particularly enjoyed the apartment’s beauty and how well kept it is.  Everything functions perfectly.  The terrace is incredible.  We loved being able to walk down a path each morning for fresh croissants and fabulous bread.  The bi-weekly market provided us with all the ingredients for delicious dinners.  Loches and the surrounding countryside are gorgeous. We used the location to tour the Loire and chateaus, and it worked very well for that.  Philippe and Christine are perfect hosts, very knowledgeable of the town and surrounding area, and have managed a wonderful restoration of the 16thC home.  The only problem is we couldn’t move in for the summer!

Room Tip: If you can, stay in the gite. The B&B rooms are also excellent, but the gite is the real deal.

Thank you for this new five green circles' review...and your very nice recommendation for our vacation rental "Gite du Chevalier", ("Knight's Cottage" in English), where we had the pleasure to welcome you for a week.
We also thank everyday our choice to stay in that peaceful centered location ; it is so convinient here, and so much more comfortable to just have to walk, just few meters to buy our bread and "croissants" in our fabulous bakery, at our street corner, or visit our wednesday and saturday extra-ordinary centered market, next to the house.
All of our gite's guests noticed it, and usually, always speak about it in their reviews, here on Tripadvisor, or on our guestbook.
Our very special location is a daily plaisure for us too.
The town of Loches is , with all its pedestrian and medieval streets, fantastic, for that too : a preserved gem of history, with a fantastic atmosphere... and so romantic feeling.!
We are very happy if you adopted a bit of our "french "art of living well" with great local products, breads, cheeses and fabulous local wines... Enjoy Life ...Philippe & Christine

What a perfect place, with its own fascinating history, beautiful design and most of all its hosts, Christine and Philippe, who restored and decorated this place almost completely with their own hands. We were the other half of the two couples described below and I got kudos from all for having found this wonderful b&b in the middle of medieval Loches. Our room, Balzac, the meticulously renovated library, was so comfortable and beautiful, with lovely décor, charming garden view and tiled round shower behind a hidden door. Our friends’ room, the Jacques Coeur, was gorgeous too--they coveted the bathroom design for their own house. The design everywhere is similarly charming, antique-like, but not old-fashioned and yet not that awful modern minimalist stuff you see around. You’ll enjoy the stories of the renovation itself and the history of the house before that from Philippe, a born storyteller. The delicious breakfasts by Christine—homemade jams, various breads and croissants, yogurt, fresh fruit salad, fresh picked strawberries from the garden—were elegant and plentiful and her company delightful. And the rose garden in back is a beautiful place, although we had limited time and didn’t get to really relax there as did another couple with their picnic. Christine and Philippe were hoteliers for years just outside Paris, before they chucked it all for this place—and you can see it in the thoughtful details. Don’t miss Karla, the glamorous black and white chicken, who is NOT named after the former first lady, but after Karl Largerfeld the designer. One thing: do think ahead about dinner, as places in Loches can be limited, especially before high season.

Thank you for this new five green circles' review...and for this fantastic and warmful review, from a "top contributor" on Tripadvisor, it is an honor.
That was a real pleasure for us to welcome you all, with your friends, in our home.
Your authentic interest for history, and culture make you "France lovers", as you have allready visited a lot of our wonderful country's regions.
Loches starts to be very famous.. it seems that the "sleeping beauty" is waking up slowly.

Our ideal location in the Loire Chateaux is discovered now .
This house, its very special - and central - location (hidden, even for some GPS, sometimes, but without trafic/noise maker...) , our romantic medieval and preserved town as a gem in the Loire Valley, makes it a "Renaissance" heaven... and You can't imagine how much is our pleasure when our guests enjoyed this place as an "out of time parenthesis" in this modern/stressing actual world.
And not only for what it offer as a fantastic very close range of Chateaux, but also for wineyards, zoo's, natural reservation, organic food, cheeses, etc.. we enjoy it everyday.

We shall be honored to welcome you back ...Enjoy Life... Christine & Philippe

We spent a week at the gite attached to the chateau in June and it really is lovely. Great location, with shops and restaurants a few minutes walk away down a lovely cobbled street. The garden is great - we ate outside either lunch or dinner every day and the loungers are extremely comfortable to lie and read a book. Lovely views from the living accommodation windows and very quiet at night . Very easy driving to the many wonderful chateaux in the area. Loches has a fantastic market -so don't miss it ! The owners were very friendly and helpful when we needed anything, but left us in peace to enjoy our holiday in this very relaxing and magical place. I really would recommend it a a great base to explore this area of the Loire.

Thank you for this new five green circles' review...and your great recommendation for our self catering "Gite du Chevalier", "Knight's Cottage" in English, where we had the pleasure to welcome you for a week.
We also thank everyday our choice to stay in that center Loire Valley location, when we decided to leave Paris.
Plus - Being in this very calm neighbourhood, of our wonderful "medieval village" of Loches, instead of any (also peaceful maybe, but ..lost, sometimes...) other country house.
It is so convenient, so much more comfortable to walk only few meters to buy bread and "croissants" at our street corners bakeries, shops, or more, visit our, every Wednesday and Saturday, extra-ordinary centred market, next to the house.
And enjoy, feel, this "French "art of living well" with great local products, breads, cheeses and fabulous local Loire valley wines.
We share all of it with a lot of pleasure.. Enjoy Life ...Philippe & Christine

We recently spent two nights as La Maison de l'Argentier du Roy,and it is easy to see why it is rated #1 on Trip Advisor for Loches. We were with another couple and we all shared a memorable experience. The accommodations were outstanding - the sleeping accommodations, bathroom, garden, breakfast and breakfast room, location, and living room were superb. The host and hostess were charming, knowledgeable, friendly, and passionate about their beautiful chateau, which has been impeccably restored to the highest standards. We highly recommend this property and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

We picked the elegant and lovely Le Maison de l'Argentier du Roy as our B&B for the Loire Valley leg of our summer France trip. We fell in love with this enchanting establishment as soon as we saw pictures of our tower room and the kids "Jacques Coeur" twin beds room overlooking the courtyard overflowing with roses in shades of red, pink and yellow. Christine and Philippe Rimbault have lovingly restored this medival manor house at the base of the Loche castle in a manner that features the medival age of the home and yet provides the guests of this B&B with all desired amenities. By way of example, our shower was hidden behind a door that appeared to be part of the room's book cases and was build into the shape of a smaller tower structure but had waterfall shower features and body massage streams. Both our rooms and that of our teenage children were spacious, beautifully decorated and (most important for the kids) WIFI enabled. We reached the internal courtyard, covered with rose vines crawling up the old walls, by descending a tower staircase and were met every morning for three days with an amazing breakfast prepared by Christine, including her myriad of mixed and exotic fruit jams, local cheese, meats, yogurt, cake, breads and cereals. Philippe labored on the night of our late arrival to find an open restaurant for us and both he and Christine gave us priceless advise on what to see and when to avoid the large tourist crowds descending on the Loire chateaus. We loved our time at La Maison de l'Argentier du Roy and hope to return some day.

Room Tip: Choose the Balzac double room (second floor w/ look over the courtyard) or the Jacques Coeur twin ro...

Spent a few days in Loches as a base for our recent trip to the Loire…wanted this area since we have seen the larger chateaus before and wanted to see other smaller ones….getting into Loches from Giverny was not problem but the drive up to the B & B was a bit daunting in our big car (the Picasso) ….very narrow, winding streeets up the hill….also be aware that you must call ahead and have the right time to check in….believe between 4 - 5 pm….we came too early and turned around which was not easy to get down the large hill and buy gas, get some water, etc…..we were welcomed by Philippe who enthusiastically described who he was, showed us the features of the Jacques Coeur room on ground level which was very good for my bad leg….showed up the outside as well as he could since it was drizzling….anyway, the room is gorgeous, actually one is the bedroom beautifully decorated with lovely historical paintings, gorgeous color, and those roses from the garden were fabulous…large windows overlooked the beautiful garden replete with flowers and carved topiary…the next room, the salon was totally elegant, again very beautifully decorated but a bit hard for me to get comfortable in the low chairs….the shower was very good, strong water pressure…glad I brought larger soap since I hate liquid soap or small bars….this is just a pet peeve of mine…anyway, we found that the room was quite chilly and once we let Philippe's wife Christine know that we were cold, a portable heater was placed in the room….that's the kind of incredible service you get….Christine is a remarkable hostess…with the mostest….her breakfasts are in the end of the large building, across a courtyard filled with the smell of honeysuckle….the large table was laden with breads, croissants, Christine's fabulous jellies, homemade yogurt, cakes…it was unbelievable! Christine welcomes her guests with incredible charm and sweetness…inviting all guests to talk to each other and asking if they needed anything….we were floored that so many restaurants were totally closed on Monday and Tuesday which made for difficult eating and two meals that I was not happy about but that is the way it is in France now….Christine helped us with reservations the first night and the meal was great…then it was very difficult to find a charming and delicious meal in Loches….something to plan for in the future….well we totally enjoyed our stay and made some lovely friends and Christne heard me saying how much I loved her green tomato jelly and she gifted us with a jar to take with us which I enjoyed in Carcassonne….you cannot go wrong with visiting Loches especially at this fabulous B & B!

Room Tip: Ground floor Jacques Coeur suite!

Thank you for this new five green circles' review...We are very happy if you remembered a nice souvenir of your stay in our House, even if these weeks of may offered us some capricious rainy days, sometimes. We try to share as much as possible this authentic french "Art of Life", so characterised in our fabulous Châteaux Valley since centuries.
Serving breakfast in a fine and delicate " Gien " luxurious local tableware is a small part of it ; this nineteenth century and luxury local production faïence is also wanted in our research of the best way of life .Also, Using our own production (totally organic - "bio" in French -) of tomatoes, raspberry, strawberries, kiwis, etc...even eggs from our "princesses", from our back-garden is another lifestyle... and a challenge in this medieval city center. Renaissance time made things this way, when they included a large garden around the house, and we must respect people living here since which kept it, by using it to give a sense to actual environmental awareness.
All the House restoration we made by hand was based on this ECO Logical basis too. No chemicals in the garden, no GMO in our food, compost in the garden and natural e-cycling and as much as possible local produces promoted,.
Life here is like painting a canvas, we use the best natural/value to try to get a final painting as the most effective and successful as it may be for the pleasure of everyone passing (...and living ;-) ) in this 500 years old House.
Thank you so much to have taken from your time to write this nice review, which helps the House to be known all over the world for its 'character', its "soul", and deserves to be shared . This is always very warmful for us, when we read our guests enjoyed particularly, their stay in our "Maison de l'Argentier du Roy" .
That was a pleasure to receive you. We shall be happy to see you again, you are welcome here... Enjoy Life ...Christine & Philippe

We stayed in the Jacques Coeur room on the ground floor which was perfect looking out on a lovely parterre rose garden. Our host Christine & Philippe were fabulous. Plus the best lit bathroom I have ever stayed in- a must if you want a base to explore the Loire
