“Perfect Hotel For Sightseeing in Chateau Country”
Reviewed 23 July 2014 via mobile

We picked this hotel as an overnight stop on our way south mainly because of its location, and the fact that it secure parking for our soft top. We arrived later than planned and though they seemed a bit grumpy, in fact all was fine. Great town and the hotel is in a lovely old building with a central courtyard. Granted, it is a bit tired but it has the sort of character sadly missing in many 'revamped' hotels. We had a pleasant, but basic, room in the main building overlooking the courtyard, so it was very quiet. The bathroom was large, but didn't have a shower. I knew this when I booked but as it was prime French holiday season, choice was a bit limited. Though service at dinner was a bit slow, the food was very good and the wine good value. Eating in the courtyard was pleasant. I do begrudge paying 5€ for a bottle of Badoit, but needs must. The hotel makes up for this by offering free wi-fi, which was a nice surprise. Breakfast, though not thrilling, was fine. We have often stopped in this area but this was our first time in Loches. A really attractive town and that combined with a perfectly acceptable hotel, would encourage me to go back.

The hotel is superbly placed nestling against the walls of the old town and in the middle of the busy shopping area. There is a market around the hotel on Saturdays
There is secure parking in the hotel or less securely in the adjacent public car park.
The style of the public rooms in the hotel is stylish classic old French , polished dark wood furniture, carpeted ballustraded stairs with brass runners, ornate lighting.
The rooms are variable . Some are distinctly tired, cramped, and in need of extensive tlc
Others are spacious comfortable and quite acceptable
Everything worked, shower, loo, TV , air conditioning, etc
the rooms were serviced everyday to a decent level. Two problems came to light, on one day the room door was left open after cleaning, second, soaps and shampoo were not replaced. Minor 1points , but important to rectify.
Breakfast was ( reportedly by other members of the party) poor value, no cereals, basic continental fare . Personally, I prefer a coffee in a cafe and a pain au raisen from the boulangerie. And there's a host of good options within metres of the front door.
Dinner at the hotel , especially open air in the courtyard, was a real treat. The food excellent , the service superb.
The staff were politely friendly, prepared to help and advise, and knowledgeable about Loches which is a typically fortified old french market town with its centre of cobbled streets churches and shops, ideal for exploring the Loire and the area to its south.
One big bonus mark for the staff, I left my mobile phone in the room , the house maids must have found it, handed it in, and before I got to the ferry the hotel had called a contact from the phone and had made arrangements to post the phone on to me , free of charge. Lots of brownie points for honesty and service

I booked at this Hotel as I love the old buildings, but was very dissapointed, the interior is run down, i wish i could give it a revamp.. Old tattered carpets make the interior smell, they should be ripped out and the floors repaired to its old glory, matresses need to be replaced.. And new linen and duvets will be wonderfull.. They have lovely antiques but their is too many ornaments around!! This could be a stunning place, i wish the owners will take note, but at the moment not worth the money!!

We stayed over Easter in the Hotel de France and the owners could not have been more friendly or helpful. The hotel is right in the middle of town and the rooms at the back of the hotel looked over the lovely courtyard were very quiet. A room at the front had a view over the road. It was not noisy at night, but the market started early on Saturday morning.
The rooms were individual and quirky, and whilst not modern were very comfortable.
The breakfasts were lovely and very generous.
I would recommend the hotel to anyone wanting to experience an authentic small french hotel

This is a hotel where you feel that you are getting a bit more style, grace, food and service than you are paying for. It is wonderfully located at the heart of this great French town and everything in the town is within a ten minute walk. The rooms are old-fashioned, which is as they should be, and they retain a sense of style which is so much more worth while than all those horrid modern boxes you so often get. The service in the restaurant is attentive and graceful and the food is magnificent. The owner and staff are very accommodating and take you through the intricacies of getting into the parking courtyard. Probably best suited to mature people, but a well-behaved family should also enjoy it.

Room Tip: Be polite and leave it up to the excellent judgement of the proprietor. This is a hotel where they...

We booked an overnight stop in the "Logis-de-France" hotel de France. Finding the hotel was fairly straightforward but getting to the car parking area proved a little more difficult. Once settled in, however, we were given the key to room 12 which was a sizeable room with a balcony overlooking the road outside. This proved to be ideal for the 4 of us to enjoy a bottle of wine and some nibbles before dinner.
Dinner was exceptional. the food and service was first class and was much better than a meal we had in a Michelin starred restaurant some days later. The bed was comfortable enough and when we woke up on Saturday morning we could see that a street market was in progress right outside the hotel and around the corner. Luckily we had enough time for the wives to meander through the stalls looking for any bargains they could find. There is also a market on Wednesday as well.
There is a lot of History attached to the town and a chateau which could take many hours to explore.

We stayed at Hotel de France on 3rd October 2013. The reception was polite and friendly, no Gallic shrugging. The room was very shabby and although the bed and bathroom was clean there was little attention to detail, such as, the pipes in the toilet were thick with dust and the grouting in the ancient shower was disgusting. The towels were like rags and the wallpaper was at least 20 years old. In all I would describe it as battered, with the gloire very faded indeed.
Breakfast was adequate, all packaged jams and 2 small pats of wrapped butter but some fresh fruit and bread, the croissants were very average. As we breakfasted we heard an English woman complaining about the bathroom and the price for such a down at heel hotel. We agreed with her as she negotiated a hefty reduction. At €83 we thought it very overpriced.
