“Fairly Pedestrian”
Reviewed 18 July 2013

Located on a seemingly quiet street, there is a small courtyard and the exterior is inviting. The lobby area is fine and my kids were intrigued with the circular stairs. However, that is where the charm ended. Our room was pure 1970's. Gold polyester bedspread looked like it had been there for years as did the laminate furniture. Sort of a surprise after you see the website photos of rooms with a bit more charm. The room was a fair size and there was A/C. The elevator is tiny, so one person at a time with a suitcase. The front desk personnel were very helpful, lending maps and dining suggestions. We stayed here as part of a cycling tour and given the choice, I would have paid more money to be closer to Old Town -- which is the place to go in Tours. We walked there and it was about 10-15 minutes, but it would have been more fun to be right in the heart of it. Our quiet side street turned quite loud around midnight with motorcycles zooming up and down.

Room Tip: Go up high up to avoid possible street noise.

Since we arrived in Tours by car, we foud that parking was a bonus. Only thing is that you have to reserve in advance, and that the gate closes at 10 pm. Which is not a matter as the hotel is aboaut a 10 - 20 min walk to the old city, where the good restaurants are located.
The hotel is near the Tours Cathedral. We used the hotel as a base at night and during the day, drive out to Chatteaus Langeis and Azay Riddeau, the town of Chinon and vicinity and then the gardens of Villandry. The room which we got was spacious, clean and nicely furnished.

We stayed in many budget hotels which were all wonderful and this was so disappointing!

We booked this hotel a week before we stayed through booking.com

Yes, great position!! but the room left a lot to be desired!! We were put into a tiny attic room (one of us is 6'4"and the other 5'9" tall!!); the noise from the next bathroom was very loud (need i say anymore)! The shower curtain didn't fit the shower entrance and when I went down to reception to discuss the issues about the room and noise I was handed ear muff things!

In the morning when we raised the size of the room again with reception, she said this is what you get if you book through booking.com..... travellers beware.

We both decided this was one place we would not be recommending others to go.

Yes its a budget hotel and central located but this hotel really could do better. We booked it as it was in right price range and well reviewed on here.

The good - pleasant courtyard, OK decor but a bit dated, nice lady on reception when we arrived. Room OK size, good bed and nice bathroom with shower. close to everywhere with a five or ten minuate walk.

The bad - we went in August and it was so hot. I appricate air conditioning is not needed but the room was hot and stuffy, you could not open windows because of the noise from the street. When we asked at reception if there was a fan, they did not have one. The heat made sleeping nearly impossible.

The ugly - when we arrived the room had a used tissue on the floor and carpet felt a bit grubby. On the second day the cleaner had broken a bottle of aftershave, there was glass on the floor which got in my partners foot, in the end we ended up finding five large pieces. Also they had just left the smashed but held together by the lable bottle on sink unit.

Additionally for some reason the accident must have got aftershave in our toothpaste as this had been removed all together. Accidents happen but there was no apology nor was it properly cleaned up.

Room Tip: The front is very noisy.

My partner and I were touring France by car and had stayed in a below average two-star hotel in Béthune (North of France) the night before. We were therefore unsure about trying this two-star hotel on our arrival in Tours. Although we had not booked (arrived there 07:30 pm), the two ladies at the reception were very welcoming and booked us into a nice & large room on the ground floor, with two large beds (queen & double) and separate bathroom. Priced at 77 Euro for the night, we could not believe how lucky we were to have found such a delightful hotel.

After a refreshing shower, we went for a stroll in the city centre, which is full of charm and character (don't miss the St Gatien cathedral) and had a lovely meal in one of the restaurants located in a pedestrian street, a short walk away from the hotel.

We had an excellent night (slept very well in our comfortable beds) and were also pleasantly surprised by the breakfast, which is served in a renovated cellar in the basement of the hotel. The choice of food was above average for a 2-star hotel. The lady in charge was very attentive to our needs and even went to the trouble of heating up some milk for our coffee (without us asking).

We will definitely come back to Tours on our next trip to France and already know where we will be staying!

I stayed here for 2 nights in April, and really enjoyed it. The positives:

* Excellent location, convenient to rail station and shops, cafes, etc
* Quiet and attractive neighbourhood
* Clean, comfortable room with excellent wi-fi
* Friendly, helpful owners and staff
* Delicious, healthy breakfast
* Value for money

Negatives:

Try to stay on the top floor; it is a charming but old building, and you will hear people on the stairs

Room Tip: Top floor will be quieter
