We arrived at 13:00 and the bedroom wasn't ready. We went visit the city and when we came back there were no one at the reception. We waited more than 10 minutes before someone arrive. The bedroom was too small, it was for a single person with a bed for couple. We hadn't enouth places to put our things. Also there were dark marks on the walls, the bedroom was a bit old. When we went out there were also no one in the reception. One good thing is that it is close to the train station and the bed was comfortable.

If like us you're planning to arrive by train and base yourself in Tours then this hotel is well located to both the train station and the Tourist Office where you will book your tours to the Chateaux.
Turn right as you walk through the front doors of the station, then turn right and continue walking about 200 metres along the right side of the street - about 5 minute walk. The Mercure is the last of 3 hotels in a block of hotels which all look as if they're built from shipping containers. I must admit to feeling I'd made a huge mistake as we walked down the street in what seemed to be a run down area. Don't be put off by the streetscape as it seems fairly typical of many areas of Tours and the area we've found seems safe to walk in the early evening.
The interior of the hotel belies the exterior. The welcome on arrival was warm and professional. The reception team speak excellent English and are very helpful in providing maps and restaurant recommendations. The rooms are quite large with a separate toilet and bathroom and are very clean and serviced with fresh towels and toiletries daily. TV channels include two English speaking news channels. Wifi is free and can be slow at times. The beds and pillows are VERY comfortable. Breakfast was included in our internet booking deal and included the usual continental style breakfast plus scrambled eggs and sausage, a good selection of cereals, pastries and breads. There is very limited room service (we didn't use it) and no restaurant. You need to go out of the hotel to eat and unless you walk to the old city, the choices in the immediate vicinity are limited.
The Tourist office is opposite the station and a 5 minute walk from the hotel and is the place you go to arrange tours to the many Chateaux in the Loire Valley. The old city and Cathedral de Tours is appx 20 minute walk.

This is a clean basic hotel on the inside (the outside looks awful) and you'll get a good nights' sleep and a good breakfast. If you're spending a couple of days in the area and arriving by train then it's ideal. If you're driving then there are many beautiful towns with accommodation closer to the Chateaux that may be a better choice.

We spent one night here as part of our visit to the Loire Valley. The rooms are clean and recently renovated, but it is very much a stopover hotel. The rates are good. However, there is extremely limited on site parking. To park in the underground parking, which is separate from Mercure, is 80 euros a night! The staff clearly tire of having to address this issue and are quick to dismiss customers (at least me and the other guests who came in about the same time I did) who want to park on site. We were told to just park on the street (about 200 meters from the hotel) and were assured it is a pretty safe neighborhood. However, you have to move your car off the street by 8:30 a.m. The Ibis across the street has its own underground parking--not sure of the rates for parking but at least the hotel had the foresight to anticipate customers may have a car with them. On further reflection, there were so many quaint hotels and lodges along our route through the Loire Valley, I would recommend looking for something close to the castles you plan to visit rather than stay in Tours. I would not stay at this property again. That said, the day staff were very helpful with suggestions for food, travel, etc.

Couple years ago, I used to stay at this hotel regularly and the rooms are still well kept. My only complaint would be the WIFI which was not working at all. In the past we used to connect to the hotel next door but it doesn't seem to be an option. Parking was hard to find if you arrive late at night. Otherwise great place to stay, walking distance to the centre of the city

Hotel room very good, breakfast had excellent choice of food, reception staff first class, hotel within 20 minutes walk of all local areas, and walking made easy by some tree lined shaded pavement areas. local transport trams, trains, buses and taxis galore
My only gripe is that the hotel had a small area in front of it that personally I believe could have been used to allow guests to relax in the sunshine after a day out sightseeing and would also generate additional revenue from drink, snacks etc., rather than guests who wanted to drink outside going to other resturants nearby
but overall well worth a stay if this is the area you are visiting
Hotel is next to train station and our room right opposite it but unless we opened window there was no noise . My hubby likes trains so he spent time watching them arrive and depart so it was an added bonus for him

Room Tip: Twin rooms seem to have small balconies

Staying at this hotel was something unexpected, but became a necessity thanks to being stuck after the last TGV back to Paris was cancelled due to railway strike.

Frankly speaking, Mercure was not the first pick on my list. Having checked at nearby IBIS and IBIS budget, we were desperate for a room for the light. It just happened that Mercure had rooms left (albeit bring more pricy).

The hotel itself is about a five minute walk from the front of the train station. We later discovered that there’s a ‘side gate’ from the train station which is much closer to the hotel.

Getting the room settled was straight-forward and efficient, thanks to the front desk guy who speaks fluent English. We were offered the option of breakfast, but decided not to take it since we were aiming for the first train back.

We ended up with a room on the 8th floor, offering quite a view of the city. The good thing about the room is that there’s an extra chamber separating the hotel hallway and the main room, with the toilet and bathroom located across from each other inside the small room. While it’s nice to have the stand-alone toilet, the room is quite small and claustrophobic people might have a problem if you shut the door.

The main chamber is quite roomy, equipped with all the standard furnishing. The room and bed are clean, so we had no problem in this aspect.

After staying in Paris with many of its old housings, I was surprised how much I missed modern business hotels. While the short stay strained my vacation budget, it is quite relieving to spend a night inside a tall building with elevators for a change.

Well taken care of from arrival at the hotel with help knowing the town and help with other important issues that needed sorting out while staying at the hotel. Breakfast was well severed, easy access to the town centre and shops.
