“beautiful place, great cuisine”
Reviewed 29 April 2014

A really nice place well taken care off, charming and original in the heart of Epernay.
Very friendly and accommodating staff, good service.
We had a lunch on Saturday noon and it was just perfect.
Very nice choice of champagnes (what else in Epernay...) and wines.
you should try it !

“Locals repeatedly praise this place”
Reviewed 14 April 2014

This restaurant has a good reputation with locals, and by “locals” I always mean people in the wine industry with whom I am visiting and restaurateurs. I trust the restaurant recommendations from wine people far more than anyone outside the F&B industry for obvious reasons. My first encounter was a generous lunch provided by Pol Roger.

I have been turned away for not having reservations on holidays and weekends, but this visit we clearly did not need the reservation I made 3 weeks prior. March is slower than Easter, and yet there were 9 people on staff to serve what would be their only 2 customers this night. The décor is dominated by the large bar that takes up nearly 1 full wall of the square room; tile floors with brass and oak, white table cloths with nice china and good stemware. The entrees and plates are priced to bring in a bill at about50€/person, but the 3-course menu offers a huge discount. The savings bought a decent bottle of Champagne.

A note of importance regarding the wine: their carte has about twice as many bottles listed as are actually available and all the bargains have been snatched up already. But they do allow carry-in with no corkage on weekdays and only 10€ on Fridays and Saturdays!

As with many good, small places I go, the menu is seasonal, so don’t expect to find our exact dishes when you come. We had a lovely carrot soup with scallops, spiced nicely with Indian garam masala and wasabi sesame seeds. My salmon steak was perfect with crispy edges and moist flakes of meat, but the lemon mashed potatoes just made our rose champagne explode! The lemon oil was such an enhancement for the wine it was amazing.

The service had a few lapses, most likely due to boredom. I'll be back!

“Good Atmosphere”
Reviewed 1 April 2014

This was one of three restaurants visited in Epernay , we had the best menu Salmanzar and asked for wine pairing with the food. The food was nicely prepared ,quickly served ,the restaurant was full of local people always a good sign , we asked for wine by the glass with each course , and were dissappointed. Menu at 53.50 euro , with an aperitf , wine and cognac total bill for two was 163.2 Euro with service included , which was pleasant .
I think this would be on my list as a lunch stop , or a quick evening meal but chose your wine

“A disappointment”
Reviewed 8 December 2013

I expected a lot. Beautiful and elegant interior, nice staff.
We took the menu of 31,50 euros.
Starter: red mullet with agrumes, was lukewarm, there was too much lemon and orange peel on the fish.
Main dish: veal chop was almost cold, potato cake had a bitter taste, there was too much clove in the sauce.
My son chose as dessert the white chocolate cake, couln't eat that, wasn't tasty. I was happy with cheeses, nice idea to serve them in the camembert box.
One extra star for a good wine list, including 0,375 bottles for a reasonable price.
Sad to say, but food wasn't to the expected level.

“Charming restaurant”
Reviewed 31 October 2013

This is a charming restaurant with good food for money. We have been there for dinner on a saturday evening and it was full house. There is a second room where it is more quiet than in the main restaurant.
