We visited Caves Mercier with friends.

The program started with a short film and a few panoramic displays. Afterwards we activated our audioguides and boarded a little train for a short ride through a section of the underground cellars. Finally we enjoyed a champagne tasting (one to three glasses) in the shop.

Positive :

The program is visually beautiful. Mercier clearly wants to entertain the visitors and present its champagne as an innovative and trendy quality product for an affordable price.

The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable.

Negative :

Visitors only receive superficial information about Mercier as a company and about the craft of making champagne.

The program only lasts for about half an hour. In that perspective an entrance fee of 14 EUR per person is overpriced.

According to my friends prices in the champagne shop were comparable to those in Belgium. Thus there are no bargains.

In conclusion : only recommended to champagne fanatics.

Taste of Champagne is one topic, but learning about production of Champagne and this family, together with the impressive Cellar is another topic. So, this one is a MUST in the region. The cellar is impressive, nicely decorated and even if it is clear that Mercier did this to sell it is still impressive. Enjoy the tour!

It's the second best winery (first one is Moet & Chandon). The guided tour reminded me a lot of Disneyland.. You don't get the real 'cave' experience.. but it's nice if you'll be there for more than one day.

We did the train ride through the 18 km of cellars, followed by a champagne testing. Quite incredible; we just had no idea how champagne was made. And obviously we bought a bottle after! As it happens, the ride is cheaper on a week day by about 3 euros which may help.
