La Villa Eugene is a 'find' in Epernay - even if visiting Reims. The service was wonderful and the rooms are just beautiful. Great linens, pillows, large bathrooms, and reasonable rates. Reims is about 45 min. drive. Walk to town center of Epernay is about 20 min. along Avenue de Champagne. Even on a rainy October visit, this place was just excellent. I imagine it's fantastic in the summer because the pool and gardens looked lovely.

Room Tip: You may want to request a room away from the Avenue.

We much enjoyed our last night in France at this very classy B&B - the former home of the founder of Champagne Mercier. Our deluxe room was very comfortable. The breakfast was plentiful, a great stopover hotel just a fifteen minute walk from Epernay town centre.

We booked in just for 2 nights, if I had known how lovely it was going to be would definitely have stayed longer. We had a small suite, it is where one huge room is split into bedroom and bathroom, with a curtain to pull if you chose. Amazing bathroom, huge bath right in the middle of the space, excellent French provincial decor, just so beautiful. The staff were very good, they have wonderful little hedgehogs on the breakfast tables, and the receptionist was able to procure one for me, the whole expereince was wonderful. It was very easy to find, right on Champagne Avenue in Epernay, Moet was just down the road, you need a car to do Champagne anyway and you really should get to Reims if you can to do some more champagne houses and to see the amazing cathederal. All in all a top stay and would highly recommend. Fairly expensive, but good value.

Room Tip: Our room was at the top of the stairs, 1st floor, and across from the breakfast room, but there were...

We were upgraded to a larger room, but I would have loved a small room with windows that opened, since the air conditioning went out. We tried calling but the person that answered the phone said that they could not leave the lobby. My husband went to the lobby and no one was there, leaving me to think that the person on the phone was merely answering the phone. Our room was sweltering and we both stayed up all night in the heat. There was no coffee machine or room service, so we left the next morning for an early flight, with no food or coffee. The room was weird, an attic type room with sloped ceilings.

Room Tip: book somewhere else not 4 stars

La Villa Eugene is a beautiful hotel. The rooms are tastefully appointed, the breakfasts are excellent and the staff are very friendly and accommodating. It is conveniently located for cellar visits and a much better place to stay than Reims.

This is a great place to stay in Epernay whether you are staying just a night on route South as we were or staying for a long weekend to explore the many champagne houses. There is a lovely swimming pool and terrace which is perfect for unwinding after spending time in the car. The room we had was well furnished with a wet room and deep bath. Location wise it is situated at the top of the Avenue de Champagne and next door to Mercier; du Castelaine and Paul Etienne Saint Germaine are only 10 minutes walk max. We are not huge fans of hotel breakfasts in France and decided against the 17 euro breakfast instead picking up some brunch in town from the many food shops. The main town centre is located at the opposite end of the Avenue de Champagne and takes no more than 20-25 mins to walk there from the hotel. We enjoyed both the pre and post dinner stroll to our restaurant Le Bistrot and would encourage others not to be deterred by the lack of restaurant in the hotel. Staff were friendly and helpful and although English was spoken they seemed to appreciate our efforts in speaking French! We would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: For summertime visits go for a room on the ground floor with terrace. Its a perfect place to enjoy a...

This hotel is OK but if it thinks it is 5 star..which it claims on promotional material where it says "the only 5 star hotel in Epernay" then they need to get out more !
Compared to real 5 star this is actually closer to 3. We had a double superior for which they charged €239 a night- they made much of the fact that we had been given a "special rate" Breakfast at €17 is a bit overpriced.
The bar area is only accessible from outside, there is no gym but there is a small heated pool. The building itself is very nice but sits beside a fairly busy road.
Our room was fine, good bed and the staff were pleasant and helpful...particularly the night watchman who helped us leave on our day of departure.
Situated next to the Mercier cellars it is in a fairly convenient position with a 15 minute walk or €10 taxi ride to town.
We left early ...well 0700 hrs...no breakfast available at such a time...5 star...sure....I asked for some Nespresso capsules so that at least I could make a coffee...we were duly charged €10 for self service coffee...nice one...5 star indeed ...€5.00 per cup..please!
To close out the experience my wife left her €200 sunglasses in the room...they like me have disappeared and will not be coming back !

Room Tip: Try and find a 5 star other than here. Hire a bike from the information centre ... Aim for the canal...
