We did three of the major champagne houses (Tattinger, GH Martel, Moet) and this one was more of an informative tasting session rather than a cellar tour.

GH Martel is an easy walk from the centre of Reims and just around the corner from Tattinger.
All tours of the major houses have the same concept - a film, a cellar tour, a tasting. GH Martel has these three but overall it is different than the other big champagne houses.

The film was not a swish marketing piece of artistic sweeping views and stirring music but seemed to be a production of their own processing plant. I found their film to be the most interesting and informative of all the houses as it showed the actual workings of champagne production for a large operation.
The cellar tour was quite short as the cellar is not really used for much anymore. They are still interesting as they have old pieces of equipment on display.
The tasting was the most informative of all the houses. We tasted three different champagnes and were able to really discuss the nuances of the different blends with the very friendly tour guides.

They do tours in English, and of all the major houses theirs was the cheapest - I think it was 12 euros. With the tasting done you can buy their champagne with a greater understanding of the different types. Their prices are very reasonable but there is no hard sell to buy their champagne.

In addition to my two points in my title above, I would add two other great plusses - an exceptional tasting of 3 different wonderful champagnes and a very reasonable price for the whole tour (12 Euros as I recall).

The caves are not as extensive as those of other Champagne companies in Reims, but I would say they are some of the most dramatic in appearance - very high ceilings and raw looking.

The guide is wonderful - she was very friendly, had a great deal of info to impart, and when the tour was done, she told us about a nearby boulangerie where we could get some sandwiches for lunch AND she called us a taxi to meet us at the boulangerie! Talk about above and beyond!

Although you go down to a cellar this is a more of a tasting tour. The cellars are not in use. The price includes a video, followed by a trip to a disused cellar and then tasting of 3 different types of champagnes. To purchase bottles of champagne this champagne house offers great value for money. It is walking distance from Tatttinger.

This house moved production from their original Reims location to Epernay. Their tour is different from the main houses - it's small, personal and focuses on the old methods and equipment, of which many old things are on show.

At the end they serve up lots of different Champagnes to try - worth the entry price alone. Very generous and much better tasting than the big names.

Our Pommery visit overran and as such we were late for this tasting. I phoned and explained and he was very kind to say that would be fine for is to just do the tasting without the tour. He landed up given us an extra tasting as a result.

We enjoyed the champagnes.

This is a small venue (nothing like Pommery), but the host was informative and friendly. The business is still family run despite being a large producer
