We did three of the major champagne houses (Tattinger, GH Martel, Moet) and this one was more of an informative tasting session rather than a cellar tour.
GH Martel is an easy walk from the centre of Reims and just around the corner from Tattinger.
All tours of the major houses have the same concept - a film, a cellar tour, a tasting. GH Martel has these three but overall it is different than the other big champagne houses.
The film was not a swish marketing piece of artistic sweeping views and stirring music but seemed to be a production of their own processing plant. I found their film to be the most interesting and informative of all the houses as it showed the actual workings of champagne production for a large operation.
The cellar tour was quite short as the cellar is not really used for much anymore. They are still interesting as they have old pieces of equipment on display.
The tasting was the most informative of all the houses. We tasted three different champagnes and were able to really discuss the nuances of the different blends with the very friendly tour guides.
They do tours in English, and of all the major houses theirs was the cheapest - I think it was 12 euros. With the tasting done you can buy their champagne with a greater understanding of the different types. Their prices are very reasonable but there is no hard sell to buy their champagne.
