“Quite a quirky hotel”
Reviewed 3 March 2014

First of all it was a little difficult to locate in a quiet side street in the dark however we got there eventually. Staff were extremely helpful and accommodating. The decor in the room was a bit overwhelmingly blue and patterned on every surface but the bathroom was lovely and the bed very comfortable. Unfortunately we hadn't noticed they didn't have a restaurant so had to set off in the dark and rain to find one. Didn't have breakfast so can't comment. It was very nice but not sure it justified the price tag.

Great friendly staff. Nice rooms. Great bed!!

At turn down they close the shutters outside the windows. No light gets in. If you wake up with the sun, forget it! Set an alarm or wake up call.

10 minute walk to the town centre and plenty of bars and restaurants.

Very nice hotel with free parking on site. Extremely helpful staff, all of them speak English and are very willing to help. Very clean, nice comfortable beds, bathroom is a bit small, but it is ok. Excellent location in an upscale neighborhood; walking distance to the Reims Cathedral and pedestrian area. Close to Champagne cellars as well. Breakfast is served in a very nice breakfast room with beautiful china; pastries are delicious (cost $15 per person).

Friendly gretting on arrival from English-speaking staff, who parked our car, and got it out for us whenever we needed it. When we left in pouring rain they brought our car under cover outside the entrance, so we could pack up ni the dry. The hotel was posh but very relaxed and comfortable, and all the staff were helpful.
It was good value at 120 euros for a double room through booking.com., but would not have been at the advertised 190 euros. Very convenient for city centre and an excellent restaurant, the Pre Champenois.

This is a nice boutique hotel Luxurious and posh but not ostentatious. Rooms are not huge but more than comfortable and bathrooms are spacious and well appointed.

Free wifi throughout.

Small indoor pool and sauna/hamam (very small) are a nice addition.

Great breakfast served at the table, enough for a brunch really (not included and a bit pricey at 23 euro pp but worth it).

Free parking and polite staff took care of the car for us.

On our Tour de France we stopped in Reims, not so much to see anything here, but as a stop along the way. Based on Tripadvisor reviews we selected the Grand Hotel des Templiers as our means to get to the next day.
Our GPS had no trouble finding the hotel in a quiet residential side street. If it weren't for the sign out front, one wouldn't see it different from any of the other apartment buildings along the street. Though we originally parked our car in a space in front of the building, we later had the concierge, receptionist, bell boy (all in one) park it inside the courtyard. There aren't really any parking spaces; the guest’s cars are simply shuffled around as needed.
The hotel, apparently a refurbished residence, strives for an antique ambiance, successfully so. Though the lobby entrance is a modern looking glass door, the remainder has an old world feel. There was no “check-in-desk” per se, simply a room with a normal office desk, where one checked in. The little old lady, who spoke no English, greeted us very warmly and attempted to help with the luggage. She might be the owner, one could believe, but I can’t say that for certain. The much younger three in one employee spoke very good English and assisted us the rest of the way, taking our car keys to jockey the car into place and showing us to our room.
The room wasn't much to speak off. A basic bed, a chair, a bureau, a mirror, a small flat screen TV with only French programming, and a window with nice curtains was all there was on furnishings. The lights were antique looking affairs, one central, hanging from the ceiling and one on each nightstand. Unfortunately there was a switch behind the headboard on the bed and when one leaned against it, the main light would turn either on or off. The walls were done in kind of a pinkish tone, that fit with the room quite well. The bed was, like the room and hotel, not exactly the newest thing. It was good enough for a night, but I’m not sure I’d want to be on an extended stay. There was free internet, but only in the lobby/breakfast area.
The bath was nearly as big as the room, and as we later figured out was set up for handicapped people, which was in some ways quite convenient. The toilet, unusually for France, was in the bathroom, and was equipped with a bar with which to raise one-self up. The shower was in the middle of the room without any walls, with a drain in the center of the floor. There was a stool as well for people who can’t stand during showering as well as another support bar. Two large mirrors covered the walls over the bathtub and sink. The door was also wide enough for a wheelchair to move through.
Breakfast was a choice of continental or American and we selected the latter. Fresh baked goods, coffee, juice, yogurt and some fruit. Nothing exceptional, but fast and pleasant service, and when it was time to go, the car was brought out quickly.
Convenience is a matter of opinion. We took a right turn out the front door and in a ten minute walk toward the center of town (follow the signs) we found a place to eat, and the Cathedral was equally easy to find. So while it is not at the center, the Hotel is convenient enough, at least for our purposes.
Overall we felt the hotel was a bit worn, not just because of the antique feel. I guess we prefer the modern conveniences over that old world charm.
