ALthough the Cathedral at Reims is the place visitors visit the most, I found the Basilica of Saint Remi much nicer; it is in a quiet street, had wonderfully serene interior and beautiful leadlight windows plus an imposing and beautiful exterior.

Located outside the Reims city center, the Basilica of St. Remi is arguably even more impressive than the more famous cathedral. It's also much, much less crowded, making for a more intimate experience. On the day we visited, we had the place to ourselves for over an hour, all the better to appreciate the fineries of its (reconstructed) Gothic architecture. The saint's tomb itself is a highlight, a magnificent sculpted reliquary watched over by the statues of now-forgotten noblemen and clerics. A palpably spiritual atmosphere reigns throughout this sacred space. You'll want to stop and contemplate the silence.

We popped in here as we had an hour before our Taittinger tour. So glad we did. Cool and quite but awesome inside. I liked the pictures showing the devistation afflicted on the building from WW1 and the work they have done to bring it back to the building it is now. You would never know it had been repaired, it looks original

Just outside the centre the Basilica is almost as gothic and interesting as Reims Cathedral but there are no crowds, we had the place all to ourselves very special
