We were on a weekend visit to Reims, and having been to the Taittinger Champagne cellars found ourselves with nothing to do for a while. In France everything stops for lunch, so we did the same, and just walked into Pizza La Sarda which is around 10 minutes walk from Taitinger.

This is not a tacky USA style Pizza place, but neither is it a classic French or Italian restaurant. It's a simple restaurant serving genuinely home made Pizza and other dishes. The Pizzas are made in full view of the street in the front window. Having had a decent breakfast I wasn't actually hungry, however my goats cheese Pizza was so delicious I finished it off no problem. My wife was a little more restrained, but her Caesar salad also quickly disappeared. A small carafe of wine for the Mrs and two small beers for me, and we were ready for the afternoon.

This was just an unplanned quick visit for lunch, but I would be completely happy to go there for a modestly priced dinner. Decor is cave-like, and the staff speak little English, but really not a problem if you have some understanding of pizzas or Italian menus and can point at menu items.

This is not a high-end sophisticated expensive place. One salad, one Pizza, two beers and a small carafe of wine, €26. Happy with that, good value for money with the bonus that you do actually feel that you are eating in a proper restaurant. I also had the feeling that the staff really appreciated your business, it looks like it is run by a husband and wife team.

The only problem with Pizza Sarda is that it is not really near anywhere. It's a bit far from the city centre, the nearest major Hotels are probably the Mercure and Campanile. You would only come across it if you you were walking from city centre to Taittinger or Martel Champagne cellars, as we were. But, if you are staying nearby or doing any of these thing, it's worth a visit.
