If, like us, you were always drawn to Brasserie Flo when overnighting in Reims on the way to or from the Channel ports because of the wonderful Art Nouveau setting and the excellent food, you are in for a disappointment.
Our food at the renamed Brasserie Excelsior was disappointing ( duck and steak both rather tough), the prices were considerably higher, and I'm fairly sure that some of the wonderful chandeliers have been replaced with modern copies.

Went here for dinner on our first night in Reims. We were enticed by its location and the ambience. However, the food tasted bland. The service was poor. Won't be returning.

For the (high) price I would expect better. Endless waiting about between courses. The interior was less than half full, so I can only think the waiters were feeling a bit cussed. Had some foie gras - one bit was thick, the other thin. One of us not happy. The main was boring - the only happy member of our party had the dish of the day, so perhaps a bit of effort and freshness had gone into that. Conclusion: the attractive gardens, the faded glory of the place somewhat overshadowed by a general lack of lustre in every department.

Brasserie Excelsior (formerly Brasserie Flo)
We booked to go to this restaurant which opened promptly. The décor is great, if dated and the upstairs a must visit to see the the décor. The food unfortunately was not quite not up to par, slightly disappointing and the restaurant is not cheap by any means. I did struggle to find something I really wanted, although there is quite a comprehensive menu. The waiters were snooty and seemed to be doing us a favour to serve us.
