Clean and comfortable, friendly and helpful.

Our second stay here which speaks volumes, a fantastic building steeped in history.

Great family room plenty pf space and all clean. We did not eat here but walked into the beautiful town for breakfast. If you come to Troyes make sure you leave yourself a good day to look around this most fascinating town.

What a delight on our second visit to Troyes to be able to stay in the heart of the old town in this quaint, historic hotel. Crooked stairs, sloping floors and quaint furnishings, comfortable and clean. A fabulous breakfast served downstairs and out the front door are winding streets of marvellous restaurants. We missed out on the hotel carpark as we didn't book ahead but the publi car park was cheaper and a short 5 minutes walk away.

We stayed at this hotel for 1 night recently. We were taken to the building opposite the Reception building to find a very uninspiring, ordinary room with no telephone and the curtains hanging off at one window. We had expected to have a bathroom with a bath, not just a shower having paid for a Superior Room. Breakfast was of a good standard and the staff helpful and pleasant. The Receptionists spoke good English. The hotel is very conveniently located to the centre of town where you will find a plentiful choice of restaurants. We reserved a garage space in advance, which was available immediately on arrival. All in all I would stay at this hotel again, but would contact them at the time of booking to reserve a room in the main body of the hotel which boasts individual rooms with beams and a fireplace.

Never had time to write any review of any type before, but felt I had to warn others. We (2 adults, 2 children) were put in a single ground floor room opposite the hotel, the glass front door looked directly into a doorless toilet. This place makes any student accomodation seem like luxury, basic doesn't come close. The threadbare curtains hardly touched when pulled together and people could just look in. The very late night revellers shouting, whistling and singing literally a pane of glass away made for a nervous night. It was awful! It wasn't cheap, nil point! Don't do it.

Les Comtes de Champagne is in a building composed of four renovated 16th century houses in the heart of the historic district of Troyes. The rooms are tucked around winding hallways and are a bit oddly shaped because of their age and the structural consolidation but contain small but modern en suite bathrooms with lots of water pressure for a refreshing shower. I also didn't mind the somewhat dated decor because the bed was clean and I found several available power outlets that made it convenient to use my laptop and recharge my camera batteries without having to stay up half the night to swap devices that needed charging. The free wifi signal was strong and I was able to place a Skype call home to the United States without any problems.

When I arose in the morning and went down for breakfast (an extra 9 Euros per person), I was greeted with a banquet of choices from a wide variety of rolls, fruits and cereals to boiled eggs, yogurts, and beverages. There was plenty of seating and a TV so guests could catch up on the news and the staff was very friendly and helpful.

With the hotel's central location, we were able to walk around much of the historic city center even as far as the Gothic cathedral that was undergoing renovation. This convenience was especially appreciated as the hotel's parking is tight and may require the staff to move a car to let you in and out.

There is several restaurants and creperies within just a couple of blocks as well so we easily found a place to have a nice dinner.

The hotel has seen better days but for the price offers a small, clean and comfortable room. The shower looked fairly basic and is in a tiny space but that's what a lot of French hotels are like anyway so it didn't bother us. Breakfast is extra (E9 per person) but very generous and a good standard. The staff are pleasant and there's parking opposite (a further charge) which is incredibly tight, and you might have to get the receptionist to move a car in order to let you out (blocking in was the order of the day when we stayed). The hotel is well located for the centre of Troyes and the only negative point is that you will get noise during the night if your room faces the street. We had several rowdy groups passing by shrieking and laughing between 2am and 4am.

Room Tip: try for a room overlooking the courtyard rather than the street

Looks great on the outside but needs renovating. Had everything you need, clean room, good ensuite, just very basic, parking was available at a price in the hotel but luckily we found some on the street.
