“Higgeldy piggeldy, shabby but charming”
Reviewed 14 August 2014

Stopped here for the last night of our 3 week holiday to France and Catalonia, on the way back to the UK. I've stayed in a few Tudor properties and love the quirkiness and higgeldy piggeldy nature of such buildings. This was no exception! As predicted the corridors and floors are sloping and all over the place. I found our double room to be very clean and homely but in need of a spruce up for sure and whilst I am willing to judge as charming, my husband was not so 'sold'. The shower cubicle was clean but worn and and discoloured however the shower itself was fabulous. The bed provided the most comfortable night's sleep of all the hotels we stayed in on our 3 week break and in fact was probably the most comfortable we've ever had outside our own home! The location is great, right in the centre of Troyes, surrounded by loads of characterful architecture from the same period. We reserved a parking space in advance and paid €7 however car parking was tight due to restricted space. We had to leave our key with reception in case they needed to move it to allow exit for the hotel van parked bumper to bumper, behind us. Imagine this option would not have been available if we did not reserve in advance. We didn't pay for the €9.50 buffet breakfast so can't comment on that score.

We stayed here as a stopover whilst driving through France and booked a family room. The hotel staff are very polite and all speak English. The room was in a courtyard across the road. It was a decent size but the furnishings were all very dated. The room was clean. The beds were old. The kids slept in a bunk bed that was very squeaky. The main disadvantage of this accommodation was that there were no windows and it was uncomfortably hot. We couldn’t really keep the door open as it was looking out into a public courtyard and was quite near the main street. Pre-booked parking is available in the courtyard at a cost, but cars get double parked so you need to get people to move when you need to leave. The main hotel was most bizarre, furnished with suits of armour. The breakfast buffet was amazing. The location is great, right in the town centre. We really enjoyed the town, it had a good selection of bars and restaurants.

Stayed here on way south, 2 couples on 2 motorbikes.
Good points: close to city center, friendly staff and under cover parking for motorbikes.
Bad points: 2.5 ft step up into tiny shower. Caught my backside on taps when turning around which turned taps onto hot scolding my it. Rooms in urgent need of decor updating. Biggest problem was the heat but couldn't open windows due to street noise. Had to relent and open during night, suffered noisy partying neighbors, kids playing football on cobbled street, late night revelers and the noisiest bin men at 5.30am.
Don't be fooled by nostalgia, stay in better, more modern hotel even if it means on city outskirts. Worse night sleep ever!! If you do stay, insist on room NOT overlooking street.

Wonderful old building -slightly decaying former splendour- in the centre of the beautiful historic area- within easy walking of restaurants and sights.
We booked and paid for parking which was essential for us. The room was very simple, clean , small but adequate. It was very hot so having windows open was essential while we were there and although on 2nd floor, it was noisy. However, would stay there again

Room Tip: With double glazed windows closed, very quiet, so in winter, think fine anywhere. In summer ask for...

We stayed here for one night going and returning to the South of France from the UK. I cannot compliment the staff highly enough, all very eager to help and extremely polite. Sadly the hotel itself is rather tired, the beds were uncomfortable, our room smelt odd and for the second night we were put in a rather bizarre apartment which had a kitchen that you couldn't use as nothing in it and a series of rooms and a bathroom with a window into the next doors accommodation. However Troyes is a great location for an overnight stop and the hotel is extremely well situated within walking distance of shops, supermarket and restaurants. Troyes is also an interesting town for an evenings wander.

a quirky and interesting place to stay in heart of the old quarter. Friendly staff and good value breakfast. The hotel and the town are loaded with character. Walking through the medieval streets to the local restaurant is just great, thoroughly recommend this place and will be back.

I loved this hotel and would definitely stay again.
The staff were lovely. Every single person was friendly and interested to hear about your day. Any questions were happily answered and porblems solved. Everyone spoke good english too.
The hotel has lots of character. I like the fact that the old askew fixtures are kept, it adds to the charm of the place.
After looking at the rooms on their website I loved the look of the room with the 4 poster wrought iron bed with the muslim curtains and booked it. The room was a delight. Good size, clean and very pretty.
A very professional establishment
