From the moment we arrived the staff could not have been more helpful and friendly. The location within walking distance and over looking the sea made it the perfect spot, We enjoyed the peaceful, quiet atmosphere and wich that we had spent more time there.

My husband and I stayed for 5 nights at Les Mouettes, having spent the previous week in Nice. The calm and serenity of this hotel was a real welcome contrast to the crowds and bustle of the Cote D'Azur.

The hotel is situated out of the centre of town and, as we hadn't hired a car, a taxi from the airport was our only way of getting to the hotel. The ride took 15 minutes and cost 25 Euros.

On arrival at Les Mouettes we were immediately transformed from tired irritable travellers to relaxed and chilled out guests. The soothing atmosphere of the hotel is apparent from the minute you step through the front doors.

For the first 4 nights we stayed in a 'Charm' room (16) . This room was spacious with a large bathroom, small balcony and a stunning view over the Golfe d'Ajaccio.
On our last night we were 'upgraded' to a Superior room- on the ground floor with a large terrace. Personnally we preferred the slightly smaller, but more private charm room.

The small, private beach is simply fantastic, with excellent snorkling potential in clear water. The hotel also has a small pool with a pleasant terrace area with ample sun loungers.

We did eat breakfast at the hotel, and although it was expensive (12 euros pp) with fairly limited choice, the food was fresh and the early morning views from the outdoor terrace were stunning.

The hotel does not offer evening meals and we felt that this was one of the disaapointments of les Mouettes. Ajaccio centre was a 15-20 minute walk from the hotel where we found numerous good restaurants.
The small bar closes at 10pm and there is no concierge between 10pm and 8am.

That said the staff were, without fail, polite, discrete and friendly. The free internet access was also a nice touch as was the fresh lillies in the reception areas.

It was an expensive stay, and all the 'extras' that the hotel provide do come at a cost.

All in all we had a very relaxing stay at this charming retreat on the outskirts of Ajaccio.

My husband and I have just spent 7 nights at ‘Les Mouettes’, and although the views over the bay of Ajaccio are lovely the hotel is rather over priced relying on the fact that it is positioned on the edge of the beach. The breakfast was very poor consisting of a few slices of cheese, some very thin Corsican sausage, some bread and croissants and some jam. There was a machine to boil your own egg if you wished – and the price a staggering 14 Euros each, so we decided to walk down the road to the patisserie and have breakfast there for half the hotel price. Before booking I hadn’t realized that there was no restaurant so all that could be offered during the day was over priced cold food (mainly salads). I will be more thorough with my research next time!

We stayed in a superior room on the ground floor for 5 nights and certainly expected something larger for 219 Euros. There was no privacy as the room faced directly on to the swimming pool which was very small, and at night we to close the shutters over the door to avoid being on view – it was rather like being entombed. The other 2 nights we were in different rooms one of which had air conditioning that did not work, (we mentioned this to the receptionist in the morning and she agreed they were waiting for a spare part), and although that time we were on the first floor we couldn’t have the balcony door open at night for air because a group of about ten French people who were at the hotel for a conference sat on the terrace below drinking, talking and laughing at the tops of their voices until after 3am. There was no concierge to ask them to be quiet because there is no one on duty after 10pm, the hotel seems to operate only between the hours of 8am and 10pm. Anyone wishing to be out after 10pm must use a master key to get in, I’m not sure what would happen if you were out after 10pm and had forgotten your key! So if you had an emergency or needed a doctor in the night there were numbers to ring and you would just have to fend for yourself. Not a very satisfactory arrangement.
We left at 7.30am and as no one starts work until 8am we had to manage our luggage ourselves, there was no one to see us off.
This hotel belongs to ‘Chateaux & Hotels De France’ which was an influencing factor in choosing it so our expectations were quite high, but sadly we were very disappointed.
As for Ajaccio – don’t bother, it’s just another large town!

We spent Easter week end in the delightful Hotel les Mouettes. We booked a suite and did not regret it. For a very reasonable price we had a large, tastefully furnished, room, king size bed, a nice independent living room and wide bathroom (shower & tub). Most impressive was the large private terrace with a breathe-taking view on the entire bay.
Because of the awful weather we appreciated the 2 flat TV screen (20 channels) in the suite & the free access computer in the lobby. We mostly appreciated the smart tour suggestions of the lovely & helpful staff.
The hotel is 5 min drive from the Sanguinaire islands, one of the most spectacular spot in Corsica and also 5 min walk from Ajaccio city center. This helps when the weather does not allow the use of the private access to the see (such a lovely beach though) or of the nice pool!
For all these reasons I highly recommend les mouettes. Above all it’s the one and only hotel in which I did not feel like a client but like a real guest

Spent ten days here in this lovely hotel. Our room was simple but nicely furnished with a lovely big modern shower room. Large private terrace overlooking the pool & garden & bay. The breakfast was very good but after eating it there was no way I could cope with lunch at mid-day! As we like the `midi` we decided to have a simple breakfast at the local cafe at 6 euros or go to the local boulangerie for a coffee & croisant. Easy walk to local restaurants. Because of the mountains it takes a long time to drive anywhere in Corsica but we visited Bonifacio & Porto. Two full days & spectaculay scenery! Hotel very clean & staff very helpful. Nice private beach but swimming a problem because of the sea urchins on the rocks. Free use of computer at any time. The rooms at the back of the hotel near the road would probably be noisy but at the front there was no traffic noise at all.

We stayed for a week at this hotel. We had a superior room with balcony - although superior rooms are meant to be larger than standard rooms ours did seem rather small with limited storage. Hotel very clean, staff very helpful. One review says you have to make arrangements if you are coming back after 10.00 pm. I can't understand what the problem is because you are given a key for the front door/gate at the same time as your room key. All you have to do is use your key! It was a delightful and well run hotel and we would definitely return again and probably ask for the same room in spite of it being quite small.

Hotel Les Mouettes is an elegant hotel situated about 4Km from the centre of Ajaccio on the road to Iles Sanguinaires.

The superior rooms are generously sized, spotlessly clean and have a large balcony overlooking the pool area and the gulf of Ajaccio. The hotel also has its own private beach with a local bar/restaurant a couple of minutes walk along the beach. There is free internet access in reception and a large airy lounge.

Staff are very pleasant, courteous and extremely helpful.

For breakfast, at an extra at €14 per person, you have the choice of cereal, pastries, croissants, yoghurt, cold meats, eggs, cheese, fruit, specialist bread, coffee, tea and juice. Light meals and snacks can be ordered all day until 20:00. There is no evening restaurant facility, however, there are a few restaurants in close proximity serving pizza, pasta, and local fish dishes. 30 minutes walk to the town centre and you have a massive choice.

Ajaccio is a very busy town, noisy with heavy traffic and difficult parking. The location of the hotel requires driving through Ajaccio to get anywhere so be prepared for holdups. It is unfortunate that the ugly 1960's towerblocks which pepper the sky-line, detract from the old part of Ajaccio which is very attractive with lots of old and interesting buildings and streets.

Les Mouettes is a high standard hotel and we would have no hesitation in recommending it.
