Could not be better located, 1 block from the main square yet quiet at night; no sea views (balcony with view on semi-quiet street with interesting street life, though). Room was average size, charmingly decorated in a bit of a "shabby chic" style, building and room had lovely period details (wonderful central staircase, pretty breakfast room and small garden in a central courtyard). Relatively basic (no safe, no air conditioning but good ceiling fan, small but functional bathroom). Desk staff spoke reasonably good English and were helpful but not reliable for special request (dinner reservations). Comfortable bed. Good value. I would stay again

Room Tip: A lot of variation in room size and amenities so ask for what you want (or look at a few rooms) - we...

Central convenience of this hotel is ideal, within easy walking of all local amenities, local transport and shops.
However the rather dated presentation of this old style venue is a bit of a problem in some ways. The traditional décor is interesting, but quite dreary and drab - some may say quaint, but for others not comfortable enough in up to date expectations.
Particularly irritating is being obliged to share night time flushes from floors above, through a communal drainage system that flows noisily through the lower floor bathroom pipes!
The bathroom is adequately equipped but rather cramped.
This is not a venue of choice for older, less mobile, visitors, with many steps and without a lift.
On the plus side, the Wi-Fi access is very good and staff are attentive.
Lack of tea making is a constant irritation, but has to be expected (seemingly) in French hotels. Fortunately there is an excellent breakfast venue and bakers shop just outside.

Room Tip: Higher floors are further from late night street noise, but require sufficient mobility to cope with...

the first night I spent in Corsica was in this hotel - that being said, the thing to do in Corsica is definitely camping, not hotels. But this hotel was perfect for our arrival - centrally located (hence the name, although not actually in the most atmospheric part of Bastia, the citadel), professional staff, cute interior. they chilled the wine I brought and we made a picnic in the tiny courtyard garden they have before heading out. good pick for Bastia.

Bastia is a lovely city, and Hotel Central is perfectly situated for exploring it. It is a large, old, atmospheric apartment building with a central staircase worn down by generations of footsteps. The floors are beautifully tiled. The building houses residential units as well as rooms for tourists. Traveling off-season, we were kindly upgraded to a suite, which was more like an apartment. It had a large sitting room, a nicely equipped kitchenette, a spacious, comfortable bedroom with a small balcony overlooking the inner courtyard, and a large bathroom. The interior and exterior shutters really shut out the world, affording us some of the best sleep of our vacation. The reception staff was friendly and helpful; they made us feel very welcome. We stayed there our last two nights in Corsica and would recommend Hotel Central to anyone who wants to feel like they are residing in Bastia, not just passing through.

This place is very central and has a lovely old mansion feel to it. The floors are tiled and the rooms have balconies. Our room was fairly generous in size and although there is no air conditioning, the fan kept us cool even though we couldn't quite get used to the whirring noise. Breakfast and parking are not included. However there is parking all around Place Saint-Nicolas for a few euros. For breakfast, I would recommend one of the many cafes aorund the same square starting from 5 euros. A great room in a great location.

Charming hotel very centrally located. Some might not welcome the stairs -- no elevator. Wifi in the reception area, but not in our room. Friendly helpful reception. We stayed at the beginning and end of our trip, and the first time we had a bigger room with no balcony; I preferred the smaller room with a small balcony over the street. Busy street, but the french doors kept the noise out.

Great, calm. friendly service, clean and spacious rooms and excellent advice for anything from finding beaches, to restaurants, itinerary....
Only downside, no elevator. but then again, it's max 4 floors and it would be a pity to ruin that beautiful staircase with an elevator.

Room Tip: family suite was great. but 4th floor and no elevator :-)
