“Very comfortable stay in centre of city”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 July 2014

It was a pleasure to explore the town from the comfort of this hotel. It had everything we needed including bicycle storage in the car park. The bed was very comfortable, the rooms were quiet, and the staff were very helpful.

First class and spacious accommodation. Welcoming smiles and ready help from all the staff. Hotel is situated in the middle of town and has car parking on site. (Use Google Earth to identify entrance to car park.). Good base for looking around town.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back overlook the courtyard and are very quiet.

The city of Besancon is a must see and the Hotel de Paris is probably the best place to stay to get into the mood. The hotel is full of charm. I especially liked the internal yard with the fountain, surrounded by old buildings. It is perfectly situated in the old town of Besancon which reminded me of isle st Louis in Paris. Although the weather was extremely hot during our visit the airconditioning worked well and the room was welcoming and cool. We stayed in a privilage room with interesting french decoration exposed beams and lots of space. Even the small window which didn't let much light in the room was not out of place and didn't bother us at all. The big bathroom with both a power shower and a bathtub was extra clean. The continental breakfast at a very reasonable price was everything we desired with fresh baked breads and croissants, french cheeses, a variety of cold cuts, youghourts and cereals, cold drinks, plus a machine to make your favorite coffee. The people at the reception were very friendly and we thank Laura for making a dinner reservation for us at a very nice restaurant with a beautiful terrace overlooking a square with big trees. What else can anyone ask from a hotel?

Room Tip: The privilege room was a good choice. The pictures on the site are pretty accurate.

I spent three nights in this cool hotel. 3 stars but excellent service and rooms. All recently renewed and the position is perfect for a spot in the center of the town. Really suggested for a visit at this beautiful town. International breakfast with a variety of quality food and good croissants and the free wifi connection are a plus!

We are cycling through France and contacted the Hotel de Paris as we wanted somewhere special to stay for our 40th wedding anniversary. From the moment of our first email to them we had nothing but excellent service and when we arrived late at the end of a long day's cycling the receptionist was particularly helpful in assisting us with our bikes and in making us feel welcome. She knew we had a special celebration and went out of her way to make our stay memorable. The hotel itself is lovely, in a wonderful location in the centre of town and with a clean, modern decor and a very nice courtyard for relaxing. I would highly recommend this hotel both for its lovely ambience and for its wonderful staff.

This was a wonderful hotel I found in the old town of Besancon. We had to drive around for 15 or 20 minutes until we found the car park, but after that harrowing experience, everything was terrific. We were given a nicely furnished (if not quirky) suite with exposed beams and trusses. The bath was quite large and had a walk-in shower. The staff provided free adapters for our USA wired devices. From the hotel you can walk all about town and there is no need for a car once there. You can go about the Roman ruins or stroll along the river. It's not so hectic as a larger city. One restaurant we would recommend is Le Poker d'As - about 5 minutes walk.

Room Tip: Ask for an Executive level room.

We stay in 3, 4 or 5 star hotels depending on the type of holiday we are on: this feels like a hotel above its class

Location: Excellent, in the heart of the old town, we heard no traffic noise -one side of the hotel is on a cobbled car free street, except for guests who can approach by ignoring the 'no entry' sign at the end of the road..and there is secure parking on site. The citadelle is about a 15 min walk, the main square about a 5 min walk, it couldn't be better located. There are loads of restaurants in walking distance and you are right in the shopping area-boutiques, coffee shops etc

Ambiance: The hotel has a really classy feel to it, very smart, designer furnishings, lovely breakfast room with outdoor eating space overlooking an internal courtyard where the cars can be parked

Room: We were upgraded from a 'luxe' room to executive-without even being told!We remarked on the room being amazing on check out when the receptionist (excellent) explained. We were in room 120- it had 1 large floor to ceiling double window, and another half size window which look out on to an interior courtyard, so v quiet. The room was quiet, had a huge be, lovely linen, separate toilet and shower room with large shower. Everything looked brand new. We even had a Nespresso coffee machine and pods provided!
Staff: Very friendly and helpful receptionist who recommended restaurants- which we took up- we had a v nice meal in the Cafe Cafe, about 5 mins walk away.
Breakfast: Nespresso machines for coffee. 2 or 3 fruit juices, bowl of fresh fruit and fresh fruit salad, choice of yoghourts and cereals and bread, cheese , ham, tea, fresh pastries such as pain au chocolat and danish pastries and croissants...couldnt see anything cooked

Room Tip: room 120 see above for details-this is an executive room- normally around 139 euros per night. It fa...

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
In the 18th century this hotel used to be a coaching inn and it represents a History lesson in itself. It was called the “Hôtel de France” and became the “Hôtel de Paris” in 1855. It was the favourite address for a large number of learned persons from the higher realms of culture and politics. Even the stones have retained the memory of Prosper Mérimée who stayed here in 1836, of Jules Michelet the famous historian, and even of George Sand and Colette the unforgettable women writers. From this prestigious place the visitor can find the most remarkable monuments and museums. It is also the starting point for nice walks in the historical town centre, hemmed in by the loop of the river Doubs. The setting gives the feeling of a lively inhabited residence where spring generates a delicious woody smell, rising up from the two inner yards, with their totally safe car parks situated at the back of the buildings. On the shaded terrace the visitor enjoys a luxurious moment of calm and can have a quiet breakfast or relax after a busy day. The view on the roof tops and on the forts which surround the town is fascinating. The sun glows into the quiet yards where the fifty rooms have been totally restored to offer a special moment beyond time. With its contemporary and ancient styles which coexist in harmony, the hotel breathes a real atmosphere of serenity. One will appreciate the particular attention paid to the comfort of the bedrooms. The cosy lounges offer original spaces to rest and meditate and the fitness room is the good idea to keep up one’s form. Two well equipped rooms allow people to organize events and conferences in very good conditions. Thanks to the young and dynamic new owners with their good elegant taste, this “hotel de charme” has become a spirited place with its three star service. It is now a jewel in the heart of Besançon. ... more   less
