This is one of a cluster of hotels conveniently near the main Besançon railway station (Viotte); it isn't the cheapest, but it is reasonably priced and excellent value. So far as we could discover on a quick survey, you pay quite a bit less for the same facilities in hotels near the station, like the Florel, than you do in the city centre places. The room we stayed in was spacious for a French city hotel, with a most comfortable bed and good facilities, and spotlessly clean. The breakfast buffet was superb. All staff we encountered were extremely friendly, helpful and professional. They were patient with our occasionally stumbling French, though they were clearly also competent in English. There isn't really a restaurant in the hotel - they run a simple buffet during the week, I gather - and the restaurants in the immediate locality don't amount to much, so you are probably going to want to go into the city (where there is masses of choice) to eat. It doesn't, perhaps, have much character; it's not a place to fall in love with, just a very good, efficient, hotel. We'd certainly stay there again.

How a previous reviewer could find that its location odd and the walk into town uneasy, I can't imagine. Having a hotel right by the railway station isn't exactly unusual. It's about 15 minutes' walk down to the centre of town; at present the pleasantest route (through a park) is messed up by the tramway works, but it is possible to find your way through those, or to walk down Avenue Foch, which is busy and unthreatening. The previous reviewer must have gone down Rue d'Industrie, which is a bit shabby but a perfectly ok way to walk; not the most direct route into town, but it does lead to an excellent crêperie in the Rue de Belfort, probably the nearest place to eat if you are content with a light meal.

This was great value for money based on the immaculate rooms in the new wing. I didn't see rooms in the original hotel. We had just a quick stopover en route from Italy to UK but this hotel hit the mark. Room was modern with comfy bed. The large walk in shower room was a real treat.
Unfortunately the restaurant was closed but the staff were very helpful in getting a reservation for us in town. Breakfast buffet was €12 each but worth it as a lovely selection.
Only down side was the location near to the railway station in a not so pretty part of town. The walk down hill to the main centre only took about 10 minutes but seemed to be via a dodgy area with people loitering in doorways... Felt a bit uneasy.

Room Tip: Ask for new wing

We stayed here for 2 nights and really enjoyed our stay here. After a day of misfortune (our car had broke down and we had to wait until it was repaired) we finally arrived here in this hotel. It's right in front of the train station but we did not hear anything at night. It was very quiet at night and you didn't have the impression of being so near to a train station.

The staff was very friendly and eager to help us out as we had not made reservations for our stay. We opted for a 'Chambre luxe' at 79 € a night. (you also have cheaper rooms, but we wanted a nice room after a day filled with misery).

We got a beautiful and spacious room which even had a balcony. The beds are of great quality with clean sheets and good pillows. The bathroom was also good and very clean. It had a rain shower, toilet and a sink. Shampoo, shower gel and other toiletries were all present. The closet space is also okay for a short stay and you can enjoy free WiFi in the rooms. There was a lounge set and a desk present in the room. The TV had a variety of TV shows from all over the world which was quite nice.

The breakfast is not included but is definitely worth it. 11,5 € per person. Very big breakfast with really nice food! Fresh fruit, different kinds of cereal, yoghurt, different kinds of cheese and meat, eggs, toast, different bread rolls, croissants, chocolate breads, self-made jam,...
And ofcourse the friendly staff was there again to help us with everything we needed.

The hotel is right at the train station and you can park your car at the private parking of the hotel (6€ per day) or just in the street in front of the hotel. It's a 15 to 20 minute walk to the city center and the historical center itself is great to visit, especially the castle. Nice little christmas market on the town square and cosy streets.

Room Tip: We were in room 116, which had a balcony and was quite spacious!

This is such a lovely hotel that I would love to say that it is excellent, but there were just a couple of minor problems:
We had a really nice room with a terrace overlooking a garden area, the room was very well laid out with a bathroom with a wetroom/shower area and seperate toilet, unfortunately the toilet did not have a washbasin so you still need access to both rooms.
The hotel is about a twenty minute walk down a hill into the centre, this can be done on a traffic free path once you have managed to cross a busy four lane road, but it is worth doing a recce in the daylight to identify the best way. Restaurants are mostly in the town centre so expect to walk or drive.

After a late night arrival we were greeted by friendly staff, who gave us an upstairs room in one of the houses at the back.
It all looked quite alright, but it is rather limited in space. It has a tiny bathroom, about 2 square meters I guess, containing shower, toilet and sink!(Almost like in an aeroplane). Besides that the bed wasn't too comfortable for 2 persons. An extra amount had to be payed for breakfast, which we skipped. Plenty of places in town to get a coffee and croisant. You'd expect a bit more for this price level.
The place is located about 20 minutes by foot from the old centre, and 5 minutes from the train station.

I'v stayed at this hotel while I was travelling around France with my girlfriend.
My trip was basically thousands miles of driving so I had to have a good relaxing place to stay.
This place certainly did the job and I couldn't be happier when price is concerned.

The little garden is very well organised, room is spacious and everything you need is there.
People are friendly. Car park is big and secure with roof.
There are no drunks, cars passing or any other noise. Just quiet and relaxing place really.
The atmosphere of the office and corridor may look a bit clumsy (looks as if things were built in a short time, not very high quality) but everything I needed was there.
There is also a restaurant, pub and a kebab shop just down the street (1min walk).
Most importantly, people at the hotel were very kind.
Hotel also has a collection of local wines at very very good price.
I will definitely use this hotel again if I visit Besancon again.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms facing the garden. It comes with terrace and it's just so good to have a sunshine...

I was travelling with my daughter who was arriving to work for a year in Besancon so we were really pleased to find the hotel 100 yards from the station as we were overloaded with luggage. The reception was bright and welcoming, the staff friendly and helpful and our room very modern and comfortable with a beautiful bathroom. Struggled a bit with the air conditioning which seemed to work intermittently and switched itself off overnight. Breakfast was lovely and served beside a big garden and terrace which was very pretty.
Definitely would recommend if travelling to Besancon
