We stayed here on business trip and expected little as it was billed as a three star hotel. But it was absolutley charming. Gorgeous, pretty little court yard, garden entrance, old world manners and service from very helpful staff, ( we checked in very late), and massive rooms for the price, (albeit reached down a corridor with a rather alarming list to the left as though the hotel were subsiding!)
It's so near the palace and lots of lovely little shops and bistros, so would be great if you're here for pleasure as well as business. Only downside if you're travelling by car is there is no parking and that part of town has very narrow streets. My room had a fab tv concealed in the mirror and a truly huge bathroom. Very groovy. Maybe we were getting a deal but it seemed amazing value. Would highly recommend. Wish we could have stayed more than one night.

This is a lovely quirky hotel just outside the gates of the palace so the loaction was great. The walls of the entire hotel are covered in wonderful fabrics which make it a bit different. The bar area is particularly nice. Breakfast was good, but not fantastic. The bedroom was lovely and the bathroom had been redone and was nice. The toilet was seperate, and was fine but the newly decorated bathroom meant that the tiling in the toilet looked a little tired.

The 'honesty bar' in the lobby is a nice idea. The bar had a lovely open fire and comfortable couches where we spent a very pleasent evening reading and sipping wine - very relaxing.

We would definitly stay here again.

This hotel is a delight. It may be in need of a light makeover - the bathrooms are certainly a little tired - but what an agreeable place it is to stay!

Warm, cosy, full of character, a fine (and reasonably priced) breakfast and altogether excellent value for money

And delightful staff.....when my taxi failed to arrive on the dot to take me to the station, they pulled out the hotel van...and refused to charge!

That kind of thing breeds customer loyalty...I shall certainly be returning

This is adjacent to one of the several entrances to the Chateau but also very close to the main eating/bars area. It is a pleasant hotel with good sized rooms. Mine unfortunately smelt very strongly of cigarrette smoke - but then that's France (even with smoking ban). It doesn't have a swimming pool which was rather irritating as it was one of the reasons I booked it - I think there is a link with other venues in the area which do but not easily accessible. Room service, wide selection of DVDs at reception, 14 TV channels, fitness room. Staff very pleasant and helpful - provide map of the area and eating recommendations on arrival. Value is affected by poor exchange rate at the moment. Wireless internet worked once and then I couldn't sign in again which was very irritating.

We chose Fontainebleau for the last night of our two-week visit to France for its relative convenience to Orly airport. Plus, we wanted to see the Chateau before we left the country.

Aigle Noir proved to be a lovely choice for our final evening. The hotel is well-located right across the street to the Chateau, and there's an underground parking garage right out front to which Aigle guests get a discount. The hotel itself is nicely renovated (in fact, it appears renovations may still be ongoing, as there was some sort of work being done when we checked in), with modern lobby and attractive lounge area with a fireplace.

Our room, which was apparently an upgrade from what we'd booked, looked out over the hotel's front courtyard and was a decent size (with ample space for a large armoire, desk, and round table with two chairs). Nice high ceilings. It had clearly recently been renovated, and had a bit of that 'new carpet' smell. We were impressed with how quiet it was, especially considering the street was quite nearby.

Bathroom was modern, clean and well-lit, with large shower stall boasting a snazzy rain-fall shower-head. It was a slight challenge to figure out how to actually work the shower (lots of different knobs) but once we got it going it was great--nice consistent water temp and good pressure. Toilet was housed in its own tiny closet--a bit of a tight squeeze but definitely within reason, and not unusual for Europe. (One odd note about the toilet closet though--the light was motion sensitive, so it had an annoying habit of suddenly shutting off if you took more than a couple of minutes in the can, but one quick crack of the door and it would turn back on again... )

We really liked that the room included a mini fridge (if we'd been planning a longer stay we definitely would have put that to use), along with free bottled water and three cans of soda. Coffee maker and fixings were a nice touch. WiFi is provided free of charge, which was great for us.

Our last-minute rate included breakfast, which was more than ample with a well-stocked buffet of hot and cold items, juices, mineral water, coffee/tea/coco. Definitely got the job done.

Front desk staff attentive and friendly; all spoke English fluently.

Although I probably wouldn't stay in Fontainebleau for more than a night (not much to do other than visit the Chateau and there's a distinctly suburban feel to the town itself), I'd definitely come back to Hotel Aigle Noir the next time we need a jumping-off point to Orly.
