Returning to Paris to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary to "live like a local", as we had dreamed of, we thought we had found the almost perfect apartment (being perfect would have had a king sized bed, however, the firm queen was great for good sleeps).
The well appointed and lovely apartment was in a very nice/safe area with huge conveniences with buses, metro and many lovely eateries and neighbourhood bars. We truly could not have found a more perfect place except, when thinking we rented non-smoking to which even the owner does not smoke, it was very disappointing because of all the neighbours who smoke. Even with the windows closed and sealed, the smell of smoke would permeate the room(s), making it difficult to breathe for someone who is very allergic. My husband, who normally cannot notice, was also highly bothered by the smell it as well. We love fresh air and opened windows during the day and, especially when sleeping but, unfortunately due to the cigarette smell, we were unable to do so ... what a huge disappointment! We only hope and wish our next visit that we are able to find a completely smoke free rental apartment building like they have with hotels.
Again, the apartment itself is larger than pictured with every amenity one could possibly imagine but, again, a disappointment with not only the neighbours smoking but also the people above who are very heavy on their feet. Especially when they awake at 7:00am every morning, scrape their furniture and wear their shoes. They also like to play somewhat loud music with bass on the weekends and, ooh la la, make loud noises when ... wink, wink, nudge, nudge ... enjoying each other's company (their feet are stomping with shoes as I write this review at 20:45pm).
An almost perfect stay in, an almost perfect, apartment was a bit of a disappointment celebrating 30 wedded years.
Cafe Gourmand apartment is located in the Marais district of Paris, near the Musee Picasso, and near many cafes, small grocery stores, and clothing shops. This is the haberdashery section of Paris with numerous men's formal wear stores. It is also a very safe neighborhood. We felt really comfortable walking about here even in the evening. The apartment is two flights up and off a courtyard in a four storey building. The apartment is very quiet. There are floor to ceiling double windows in the main room, opening to the courtyard, which allows for plenty of air. The apartment is clean and modern, with nearly every possible amenity you might need, especially in the kitchen. The small bedroom has only one single bed, not two; the larger bedroom has a queen sized bed. Both beds are comfortable and firm. The bathroom is of a good size and very nice, especially the shower. The living room and dining area provide plenty of space for sitting and visiting, and serving food. The washer and drier were great. The only item we could have wished for would be a fan or two, when it got quite hot for a few days. We found that Guillaume was very helpful answering questions ahead of our visit. In all, we were delighted with our stay and would definitely rent this place if we return to Paris. I highly recommend it.
Very enjoyable stay, in well appointed and cleverly designed space.
The location of the apartment was perfect for us, close to delicious cafes, bars, markets, clothes stores etc.
The republic, and bastille are not far away, and we walked to notre dame and the river several times.
Great appliances, comfy beds and couches made this an enjoyable stay.
Coordination of the key pickup and intro to the apartment was made easy by our most charming host.
Very enjoyable - thank you!
Excellent in all regards: quiet clean very well equipped perfect location in the Marais which has a great neighborhood feel and on the 96 bus line which provides direct access to major sites and easy access to others. We'd love to stay here on our next visit!!!
