“Great hotel a bit far from the centre”
Reviewed 1 March 2014

We were on a business trip to Paris on January and we stayed at Mama Shelter. The hotel is typical Philippe Starck, dark and stylish. The rooms are small, the bed was comfortable and the breakfast was EXCELLENT! The food at the restaurant was average, but the pizza was really really good!
The only thing bad about this place was that it was far from the centre, but it is totally worth it.

I came back to Mama Shelter after an excellent stay in 2012 for a congress. This time on the romantic tour and the hotel definitely lived up to my expectations (again). We arrived at 10.30 am and there was already a room available on the top floor. The Mama Luxe double was quiet spacious with a very very comfy Q-size bed! I loved the 27" iMac on the wall for radio, movies, taking photos or videos and streaming your own music from iPad or iPhone (via airplay). Room is a bit dark, but in my opinion this creates a quiet romantic ambience. Room and bathroom clean, also love the waterfall shower head.
Staff at reception desk are very friendly and personal. Location is great, 25-35 minutes to Louvre by bus (stop next to hotel) or a 10 min walk to Metro Alexandre Dumas.
I love Mama Shelter and am planning to stay in there hotels at other locations in France.

Room Tip: Tip 1: do consider breakfast. Totally worth it for 15 euros! Tip 2: don't take rooms 701&70...

The hotel itself is probably the coolest place in Paris. This is echoed in the fact it's fully booked almost every night and of an evening the restaurant and bar is packed with Parisian hipsters eating and socialising with a love DJ. The toilet had Jean Luc Godard films playing on a TV on the ceiling so you can watch Anna Karina whilst having a poo! The rooms are very unique, weird lighting and in room iMacs with dozens of free films to watch, masks to wear and pictures to take and send them to your email. It's small but clean and makes for great fun. The service was friendly and the prices weren't too bad considering it is in Paris. (Not the cheapest city around.) We didn't have dinner there, we opted to eat out in some of Paris's amazing restaurants, but we did have breakfast and I felt it was good value for an unlimited buffet. (€15pp) The location was good, a short walk to the Alexandre Dumas Metro, from there you can go whenever you please with a 1 day metro pass for about €7. It's a hip neighbourhood, quiet and safe. I would definitely stay here again. You can stay in a typical bland hotel anytime.

This is a nice contemporary hotel and the price was very decent. The front desk people are very nice and quite helpful. My room was nice, bed was soft. The service was good. Overall the hotel was very good, however the room decor was kind if funny and to some may be scary. There are masks that are used as lamp shades. Each room was equipped with a 27 inch Mac and you can get on the Internet with a borrowed keyboard from the front desk. The hotel dinning is interesting but the bar is full every night. The hotel us located about 15 min walk to two train statins and once you know your way, it is quite convenient to get around. Dinning is quite abundant if you care to walk around, overalI i rate this a good hotel and worth to come back to.

Clean, fun and great design hotel. Excellent value. Great breakfast buffet with choices of hot food, fruits, pastries and a good selection of teas (a first for me in France). Would definitely return again and recommend to friends.

Room Tip: Room 622 came with comedy masks of Scooby Doo and Darth Veda, if you like that sort of thing...

We stayed here for two nights after checking out the prices for central parisian hotels.
This one is a bit off centre, right next to the Pére Lachaise cemetery, 8-10 minutes away from the Metro.
The hotel is very trendy, with a lively decor and a very fashionable restaurant and bar, which was always full for dinner - the restaurant is fine, although a little expensive for what you get. There is an adjacent pizzeria which it is said to be very good and it's right next to the restaurant.
The rooms are a bit dark and the design ends in the bathroom - very simple, no amenities (just soap and a 3-in-1 shampoo/shower gel). The space is more than enough and you do get your own iMac to play with.

All in all, a great place to stay in Paris, recommended!

Excellent location, cool and unique hotel, very helpful and friendly staff.
Stylish and funky design creates a unique atmosphere, expecially for a romantic getaway. Very comfortable rooms. Good selection of free movies on a TV.
A hip bar and restaurant - a bit pricey though.
The local neighbourhood offers great small bistros and bars at a very good value, centre reachable in 15 minutes.
The local area has so much to offer - we will definitely be back to explore more.
