“Dire”
Reviewed 3 July 2014

I am reticent to review the meal I recently had here, as I was a guest, and don’t want to embarrass my host.

However he was sufficiently embarrassed at the time, so I don’t suppose he will feel any the worse if he reads this.

This was the second time I have had the privilege of dining in this outstanding-in-every-other-way building. The first time was excellent, the second time a disaster. I cannot catalogue all the things wrong – the quality of the food, its presentation, the wine, and most appallingly of all, the service – the one thing that a Military establishment ought to excel at. It was dire. Dire, dire, dire.

My host was so dreadfully embarrassed, and I was for him. He later told me that he thought the catering had been contracted out, and that our experience was not uncommon.

Go anywhere else, until they get their focus right.

this hotel is very well situated...just a few blocks from Gallerie Laffayete! Morgador theater, the Opera, and a walking distance from the Champs Ellysee. It is a military hotel. Very Good breakfast! Love it!

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the Eiffel Tower!

We stayed at the CDA hotel Sainte Genevieve in the Latin Quarter in their only suite with full kitchen.
PROS: great location and price.
CONS: dated, old interior, paint peeling, carpets stained, only one staff at desk so waits can be long to check in or out, The Breakfast is a disgrace at 7.10 E!!! the WORST example we’ve encountered in several countries at all hotel price points. Front Desk staff for the most part had typical French attitude and that translates into arrogant!

Room Tip: Book the only suite that includes a separate full kitchen BUT the refrigerator doesnt work and proba...

Breakfast fantastic with fresh eggs and american coffee. Very close to metro and trains to versailles from lazare. Undergoing renovation on third floor, which will bring more modern touches. Lobby very impressive. Quiet in room most of the time.

Room Tip: Undergoing renovation on third floor, which will bring more modern touches. Breakfast on 2nd floor.

Hotel for serving military officers. Military ID required on arrival. NATO officers pay a small "foreigner's supplement" to stay. The location is excellent on Boulevard Haussman, and convenient for Gare St Lazare. You are walking distance from all central Paris sights.

The rooms are basic but clean. Television and WIFI provided. A choice of several restaurants, a bar, where breakfast is served. The decor is dated, but it appears that they are renovating some of the rooms. Rooms facing the boulevard have an excellent view.

Hotels in Paris can be expensive. For the location this offers good value for money. This is a club for serving military officers and not a 5* hotel.

For an even more basic but cheaper experience - the St. Genevieve Hotel in the Latin Quarter overlooks the old Ecole Polytechnique offers excellent value for money.

We should have written this review 9 months ago, but better late than never and I'm sure nothing has changed.....

First a little about your reviewers :) We are a couple in our early 40s, and have travelled extensively through work and business. We stayed in late May 2013, for about 9 days on business, trying to work in some vacationing too.

PROS:

- LOCATION - Situated just north of everywhere you want to be for a classic visit of Paris’ essentials, via walking (if you have time), but certainly using the Saint Augustin metro as your springboard to everything. It’s a good line with a few stops to most central sites. Also, there is a grocery store across the street, and some ok restaurants (which was actually disappointing, given this was Paris, they restaurants should be fabulous.)

- BUILDING – It is a lovely building with a beautiful foyer and staircase, which maintains glimpses of past grandeur. But, unfortunately, the love affair with the accommodation ends there….

- BREAKFAST – Buffet was pretty good. But, the scrambled eggs are atrocious. I don’t know who likes them that runny, but apparently some do.

CONS:

- ROOMS - We were in a interior court facing room – which can be charming but this wasn’t. (The rooms are musty smelling and tiny. The latter can be expected, but the former is unacceptable. We hoped that by airing out the room some of the humidity would be released, but the smell is just in there. We wanted to have the window open all the time, but it got too cold, plus there’s the privacy issue.

So, switch rooms, right? We asked for a few days and we were told that they’d see, but it’s just so busy that they can’t do anything. This very disappointing given the length of our stay. Basically, they were saying “We just don’t care”. We were stuck.

- There is very little room to put out your luggage. Not atypical for Europe, but also we were there for a while, so some consideration by the hotel would have been appreciated.
- Drab, tired decor
- Bathroom was, however a decent size. Strong, warm shower (but this is showering in an open bathtub, which I’m not fond of).
- Pretty good wifi in room, however. That was appreciated.

- HOSPITALITY – They didn’t care about our dissatisfaction. It would have been good to at least see them try, but they didn’t

- VALUE – Barely passable, as you are not getting much more than location. That is everything.

SUMMARY: Too bad, this could be a wonderful place. It's ok as a place to crash for a couple of evenings, but anymore and it will start to grate on you. Not recommended. There are many other options.

Enjoy your trip to Paris!

I been there with my family the hotel very old, rooms are very small. But has a very good location near by the opera and in the meddle of Galeries Lafayette and the champ élysées. The people working over there very very friendly. The winer at the hotel is the breakfast items and location don't miss it. I strongly recommend to rent it with breakfast. If the are going to do a renovation sure I'll come back otherwise it will be last option to stay at when visit Paris.

Room Tip: Don't miss the breakfast
