Description: La Romantica Caffe restaurant in Paris not two steps from the Ecole Militaire is the pretty little sister of the beloved La Romantica in Clichy. This attractive bistrot has exposed brick walls, sleek toffee-coloured seating, wooden floors, clever indirect lighting and a feeling that care has been lavished on every detail, no matter how relaxed the ambience. The menu differs slightly from big sisters, too. Its more informal, though still authentic seasonal Italian gastronomy, with dishes like a pretty irresistible assorted antipasti platter, a long list of pastas, classic elephant ear veal Milanese, and an ultralight tiramisu. Superb for business lunches, a small army of regulars keeps the atmosphere buzzing.

Very limited and poor wine selection, especially by the glass (for example their were three choices for white: all three were Rieslings...no Italian selection, which is weird for an Italian restaurant. All red wine choices were on the light side...no robust selection! ) Our salad and my husbands dish was good but my pasta was too heavy and creamy to eat. ..it was swimming in this thick sauce...gross! Even for Paris standards the seating was very tight.

After a visit to Les Invalides we walked the nearby streets looking for a lunch restaurant but found few, & of them most were closed. Don't tourists or even the locals eat out on Sundays? Fortunately we discovered La Romantica which offered good Italian cuisine - yes, I know, Italian food in Paris! We were very pleased we found it as it had a quite extensive menu & the staff were friendly & welcoming & service fast. On our waiter's advice I ordered the creamy linguine with sage - what a treat. A huge round of Parmesan cheese was wheeled to the table, set afire with a hefty slug of brandy, then scraped & whisked into a rich creamy sauce which was liberally poured over a bowl of steaming linguine. It was delicious, & washed down with a nice Montepulciano Nobile red, made for a great meal. It was a bit expensive but the number of diners indicated quality, & we were fortunate to find a table. Thoroughly recommended.

Expensive and mediocre.

The Duck Carpaccio was amazing but then it was downhill from there. The tables were too close together and the Milanese Elephants Eara (breaded veal on the bone) was basically a massive turkey drummer from Iceland

We booked a table for New Year's Eve via the bestrestaurantsparis.com website (which appears to use a booking company called The Fork). We received an email confirmation of the booking from The Fork but then a separate email from the restaurant asking for a deposit because the booking was for New Year's Eve. We were a little concerned and annoyed by this but understood that this was NYE and were worried we wouldn't be able to find anywhere available if we just tried to find somewhere once we'd arrived in the city. We transferred the requested money and emailed the restaurant to confirm we had done so, asking them to confirm via email they had received the money. We never got a response. On our arrival in Paris we decided to go and find the restaurant to check the booking was confirmed. When we got to the restaurant it was closed, with a sign on the door saying that it would not be re-opening until the 1st January (unfortunately the day we were leaving the city). Attempts to contact them via email to resolve the issue haven't received any response from the restaurant as yet. Obviously can't comment on the food or service but would warn others to avoid paying anything upfront or using that booking service.
