“Decent little bistro”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 July 2013

Unpretentious, friendly and good value.
Gets quite crowded (mainly locals), so we were glad we booked.
We spent a very pleasant evening, and thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Traditional solid menu prepared by a god cook. Would thoroughly recommend

“Authentic bistro experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 July 2013

It is 2 years since we last ate here and am pleased to report that the standard remains high. This is an authentic neighbourhood restaurant that offers a welcoming experience and proper French food at very good value. My entrecote steak and frites was up there with the best ever eaten - glad I was hungry! Starters, mains and desserts all offer choice, quality and value - with a wine list that is also very reasonable. All in all a memorable visit. A small restaurant to certainly recommend in an interesting street not far from Gare de L'Est and the St Martin Canal.

“Simple, tasty, good!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 May 2013 via mobile

We both got 3 course meals for 15Euro. While simple, the food was tasty and fresh. It was fantastic value. Herring and potato entree was excellent. Turkey pan fried main was very good (it was like a schnitzel). Chocolate mousse for dessert was delicious. Beware red meat even mince and meatballs is cooked quite rare in France so maybe steer clear of that if its not your thing. Service was very fast and friendly. Gets busy with locals after 8pm. Alcohol was reasonably priced. Highly recommend this restaurant.

“Good honest food and neighbourhood restaurant”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 May 2013

This type of neighbourhood restaurant is disappearing fast even in Paris, so hurry over at the next opportunity. Set in a nice quiet street near the scenic Canal St Martin, we received a warm welcome.
This is the perfect place to relax after a hectic business trip or shopping day.Not only that, but the steak au poivre with lovely home made chips was tender and tasty and a steal at 11euros -good quality red wine served in pichets was exceptional value too. Hurry to this corner of real France and enjoy the convivial atmosphere.

“Microwaved food?”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 November 2012 via mobile

I was actually in the food mekka in St Germain when I took a spontanious decision to jump on the metro to have my dinner close to the hotel. I was heading to Bistro de Faubourg, but was not opened at the time i got there before 8pm. So i had this decision...It was a busy and cosy restaurant with good menu deals if you are very hungry. I ordered the fish of today with some baked veggies aside. Very nice waitress at this point, she didn't get upset with my limited french and did the best to try to talk in english. The wine was good, but the main course, big one, was a dissapointment. The fish was hard, overcooked and way to warm to be considered being non micro waved. The veggies were too cold in combination. When paying, I had a new waitress. The sum ended at 15? and I gave her a 50. The waitress went away and had a smoke and when she was finished she had totally forgot to give me the change. I recommend de 2 Singes a block away.
