There is nowhere more whimsical than a public fountain adorned with sixteen works of sculpture, that moves and sprays water to the music of this giant of a composer.
It is next to Centre Pompidou and if you have passed the church of saint marie, you have gone too far. The black mechanical sculptures are by Jean Tinguely and coloured works by Niki de Saint Phalle. It represents the inspired 16 works by Stravinsky's "the Rite of Spring". Remember the elephant, the firebird, the fox, serpent, frog?
The fountain is designed to be as light as possible with shallow water,a bottom of stainless steel, with sculptures composed of plastics and light materials.
We love this fountain, with Niki's works brilliant and violent colour, the mechanical components and the water play make this ensemble charming, funny and whimsical.
