We ate here for our last meal in Paris. The menu and service was appalling. The menu was a small handwritten chalkboard the man dragged from outside. We ordered and then 3 out of 4 dishes arrived, the fourth dish came HALF AND HOUR LATE. it was a beef dish. The man acted very strange and tried to keep us sweet for that 30mins. Some chips came which we didn't even order! The bill came to €125 euros... It was majorly overpriced for what it was. The man had counted on the chips we hadn't ordered so we told this to him and he claims we ordered them. The man was very hissy and then got very aggressive. We put down €120(the chips costed five euros) and then he got very annoyed and angry. He was shouted at the top his voice and threatening to call the police... He picked up the phone as we refused to pay and then "he called the police" who apparently take 5 whole minutes to answer the phone. Within that 5 minutes we did nothing so he put the phone down and shouted "FINE, THIS ONES ON ME, GET OUT, JUST GET OUT... NOW!!!" He snatched the money and took my aunties glasses case thinking it was her phone. He said ITS MINE NOW , so we just walked off.... We heard a growl and then the threw the glasses case 20yards down the road. My auntie retrieved it and about 50meters down the road he sprinted after us and grabbed my auntie and said " YOU COME BACK TOMORROW, YOU ARE DEAD" which was quite funny because we were leaving tomorrow lol. Anyway we walked up 100 more meters and a police car came after us and the crazy dude was in it! 3 men and the crazy dude got out and the police questioned us... We told them the story and when we explained it was over €5 chips they sort of laughed to themselves!! We told the police we wanted to make a complaint about the crazy guy who threatened to kill my auntie and then we soon rushed off to his little restaurant!

Well, I can honestly say the food was good. Sadly, the service was not.

My wife and I arrived and were invited to sit down at the only available table (the place did seem popular) and we were handed menus and shown specials on a chalk board. As we were looking through the waiter came over after a couple of minutes and said “I need this table… a party of three have just arrived”, and motioned for us to move to another table for two that had just become free.

Ok, that’s not a big deal I admit, but it’s the way it was done. No apology for the inconvenience, or simply a polite thank you afterwards for moving, it felt more like “we should move now and be grateful we are still allowed to eat there”. Rude in the way you sadly often encounter with restaurant staff in Paris.

When the food arrived it made up for it, but the service staff did seem generally snooty and miserable here, particularly I suspect the second they realise you aren’t French.

Stopped here for lunch on a walk from Tour Montparnasse back to Le Marais.

The staff were friendly, even joking with us (via pantomime as I am not able to joke in French). The service was typically French, so Americans will think it is slow and indifferent. I found it perfectly acceptable.

The chicken club sandwich was a pleasant break from the typical bistro sandwich fare, though I have yet to find "proper" toast in France yet.
