Long, long line. Beautiful view. Visited at 6 pm. Plan to spend at least 3 hours. When finished, most restaurants were closed.

Be advised - one of our favorite things to do in Paris is visit the Eiffel Tower and bring a picnic, sit in the adjacent park and marvel at the tower and the beautiful gardens.

Alas, this is becoming more difficult. We arrived with our picnic basket with wine, glasses, bread and cheese only to find they would not allow us in!!

The entire park is now fenced off and you must pass through security to get in. They would not allow the glasses or the wine to pass through security. We were able to find a spot on the adjacent lawn with a view of the tower so it was OK - but if you are planning a picnic make sure everything is plastic so you can get in!!

The Tower itself is great to see, but the gardens below are very disappointing as grassed areas almost nonexistent and garden barely maintained.

The public toilets leave a lot to be desired to say the least !!

Best time to view the tower is just before 23:00 as the flashing/twinkling lights on the tower start then (before that the tower just lit up.

An iconic landmark of Paris. Dont bother about queuing and going up, not worth it in my opinion as the view of the Eiffel Tower is what you want. There is plenty of good picture spots, with the main one being from the Place du Trocadéro which is accessible via lines 6 and 9 on the metro.

This Paris landmark is better seen from a distance: constructions all around force you to zigzag for ever, and once you reach the gates, security staff may shock you with their rudeness. In our two-week stay in Paris, our only encounter with rude people was with security staff at the Tour Eiffel. They treat people (everybody, not only us) like potential criminals, with not a polite word, basically shouting at people. Once in, queues to go up are extremely long. Entering is a waste of time and a humiliating experience.
