Owner description: Paris's oldest public square has a meticulously manicured central park and is surrounded by beautiful 17th-century townhouses.

A beautiful, peaceful small square tucked away off a main road. The architecture certainly makes this square, the oldest in Paris, well worth a visit.

The Place des Voges (originally Place Royale) was built by Henry IV in the early 1600s. This is a significant site for early Paris history. Victor Hugo's residence is located in the Southeast corner. There are lots of shops and restaurants along the covered walkways and a large garden in the middle of the square. Beautiful old Parisian architecture.

The architecture is beautiful, and the history of the Place des Vosges is very important. It is worth adding to your Marais itinerary, and there are several restaurants around the square that appeared to be very popular. However, as a "park" it is very disappointing. We walked around the square, walked through the very small center park, and were ready to move on to more interesting venues.

This is a pretty little square with art galleries, cafes, and a place to sit and relax. Along the colonnades there are galleries which had the most interesting art work and sculptures for sale. I had lunch in a cafe here (can't remember the name) but the food was quite good and the server was very pleasant. I didn't spend much time here, but the time I did spend was relaxing and quite enjoyable.

If you're not staying at Marais, this is the right place to start visiting the neighbourhood. Great option for raining days, with its galleries and shops. After a coffee, keep going through charming Rue des Francs Bourgeois and Rue Vieille du Temple.
