“Modern Art for Free”

At the moment one floor at the Pompidou is shut, so this is the only museum where you can see art from 1900 to 1960 in Paris. The collection is surprisingly rich for a free museum. There is a large Dufy collection, but obviously as the museum relies mostly on donations, there is not much connection among the exhibits. Some Alaia pieces are currently displayed here in cooperation with the major exhibition at Palais Galliera across the road also.

entrance to the permanent exhibitions are free, and even better the exhibitions are worth visiting. a very interesting mix of styles and pieces, it was really pleasant to walk through all the spaces.

you must also see what temporary exhibitions are showing at the time of your visit, as they are usually very very good. i saw keith haring, the political line, which was fantastic.

definitely worth your time.

“Worth a Visit- and a Lovely Lunch”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 October 2013

We were curious to visit a museum that we hadn't been to on previous trips to Paris, and were very glad we did. This is a beautiful museum with some terrific artwork that we hadn't seen before (Particularly liked the large Delauneys).

Note that there is a very nice cafeteria. They had several lunch options, but we both selected the "Grande Salade." It was a choice of large scoops of several different kinds of interesting salads- lentil, rice with tuna, tomato/mozarella, and cucumber- a beverage and plate of 3 perfect petit fours- stylishly presented and delicious.

“a must if you are intersted in deLauney, Vuillard, Dufy, Bonnard”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 September 2013

merto stop lena, within easy walking distance of the Museum of Asiatic Art Guimet. We stopped in as an add on and stayed to be delighted by the depths of the display of the works of these slightly less famous, but clearly highly influential artists of the period. It has a nice cafe, wonderful book shop and its more modest size after the Musee d'Orsay feels doable.
