My 2nd visit was even better than the first. This quiet and elegant boutique hotel in St Germain is a gem. The location is ideal and within walking distance of the Seine, Louvre and Musee d'Orsay. The staff is always welcoming and extremely helpful. They remembered my room preference and I was once again comfortably ensconced in my favorite suite with amazing views from every room. I look forward to returning.

Dear Stephanie,

Thank you for your loyalty towards our hotel and for writing this kind review.

The Montalembert tends to be a small and cosy hotel. It offers our employees this great opportunity to interact with our guests and personalize their service.
It is always a pleasure to read such a feeback and we will share your comment with our different teams.

We are honored to know that the Montalembert has become your "Parisian Home" and can't wait to welcome you back soon!

Sincerely,

This was our second trip to Hotel Montalembert and we enjoyed it even more than the first time. It's in a terrific location, the rooms are lovely, the bathrooms are well appointed and the staff is terrific. It's quiet but close to so much. If you're looking for a boutique hotel on the Left Bank, we highly recommend it.

With our regular hang-out on the Paris left bank closed for three years, we needed a replacement for our 4-5 trips to Paris per year. The Lutetia staff and management recommended the Montalembert. First-off: we really wanted to like this hotel, location is great and the Liaigre deco is not your average boutique thing. Having read the reviews we were afraid that we would have been turned off by the typical micro-small rooms with triplex-wood antique imitation furniture, and the toilet being hidden right under the mattress of the bed, to save space (joking!!, but thinking of the Castille Cambon, not far off the mark). None of the above: standard rooms are small but adequate, ceilings are high so there is breathing space. They come with some actual antique furniture and nice touches: a special hook for a garment bag for example, next to the entrance, so you ignore it when you close the door leading to the toilet and bathroom, shoe support in the closet ao, you know that people were thinking of actual travelers here. On top of that: it is all pretty new and sound proofing is top notch, quality of the bedding is really very good, bathroom in green marble is small but nice, you get wonderful bathrobes. So infrastructure is really on par with pricing and the five star label.
Service is a different piece of cake: the Montalembert is great most of the time, but at regular intervals is really below par. This gross inconsistency weighs on my rating and really regret this: with a little effort this hotel would be able to reach real excellence. In general attention to customer needs from reception and management is great (I really appreciated a hand written welcome message from the operations manager, nice touches like a welcome espresso as we dropped luggage off at 10 30 AM or complementary water bottles for the road or next day explanations on the food were duly appreciated) voiturier/bellboy and waiters is a different story. So this message is really a pledge to the management: please drill, coach, train and motivate your lower level staff and finalize the gem, I might not even return to the Lutetia when it re-opens.
For the detail oriented a small list of what went wrong (and which can be so easily corrected by operations / maître d):
We did a second luggage drop-off in the evening. Car was ignored, we had to move it away as there is no overtaking possible in the rue Montalembert and a staff car was taking up the hotel parking spots, then we were ignored only to find that the bellboy rushed to the following customers, opened car doors and took their luggage, whilst we where meanwhile schlepping our luggage to reception. Afterwards we got extended apologies from reception. Not from the bellboy though..
We had dinner at the hotel restaurant, good food, but on the expensive side. No-one bothered to ask if we wanted an apéritif.... so we were just sitting there? Even "Courtepaille" (god forbid) does this better...
During dinner I realized I forgot my phone in the room. To speed things up I took the stairs and promptly fell to the ground (could have been a lot worse) because the carpet on the stairs had come loose (which went totally unnoticed until reported by yours truly the next day to reception (what was room service or cleaning staff doing??))...
During breakfast we ordered a standard breakfast with extras. Fruit salad for my wife, scrambled eggs for me. Fruit salad never came until we had completely finished breakfast, scrambled eggs came first, not the actual breakfast. Even after explicitly reminding the waiter that he should bring the rest asap or that otherwise the scrambled eggs would be cold, it took quite a while...
And yes London 066: Staff still block one of the elevators as you mentioned...
Obviously, reception made the breakfast complementary, yes, excuses fused. But I would have preferred to pay in full and get the service I expected.
We will be back in September, but if things remain this inconsistent back to the drawing board it is...

Room Tip: We had a simple superior room front, 2nd floor. If that type is ok, bad choices are difficult...

I booked into this hotel on the recommendation of a cousin who is an old Paris hand. I was taking my partner from Germany to Paris for the first time and I wanted the experience to be special. The location is excellent--a few steps from the Rue de Bac metro station in the city's smart 7th district; the decor is an updated version of the traditional French. The staff is welcoming, friendly, obliging--and bilingual. No English speaker need feel embarrassed...even the bellboys speak English. The rooms are admittedly small but the bed was the most comfortable I have ever experienced in a hotel. The attitude of the staff seems to be--let's see how we can exceed expectations. In my case I had accidentally left some important prescription drugs behind, and they obviously moved heaven and earth to find them and send them to me in Munich (at their expense, by the way). This hotel is not inexpensive but very good value for location, service and general comfort.

Just got home to the US and having champagne and smiling thinking about the week we just spent in Paris.

Gorgeous people at the hotel they made our trip.
Not in order and many not mentioned Sophie Benjy& Pauline to be name a few.
Everyday wanting to please and assist evaluating with you a restaurant, doing little things for you
And making you feel special and be yourself.

The service and response to your needs was impeccable and immediate.
It's Paris rooms are not large but the location and attention to detail is there.
The hotel and I am extremely discerning is a 5 star hotel.

I will find a way to go back this early winter as I will miss our friends at the hotel and the left bank.
You are making a mistake if you don't stay at the Hotel Montelembert.

To say that we were pleased is a huge understatement.
