We took other reviewers advice and bought our tickets in the Carousel shopping centre which worked well and avoided any queues. Like everybody else we went straight to the Mona Lisa - you have to do it but it is no great pleasure trying to view a fairly small painting through a hundred other people taking photos of it. The Louvre is beautifully laid out with plenty of space between exhibits. We particularly enjoyed some areas that we hadn't thought of including statues from ancient Egyptian and earlier. The two downsides are it is very busy and most descriptions are only in French.
