We originally planned to visit/navigate the Louvre ourselves, however it was raining & knowing that we’d have to wait in line for a good amount of time, we decided to book a last minute tour via Walks of Paris. If you’re on the fence about using a tour guide/company, I would highly recommend it – The “skip the line” access is well worth the money & having a guide makes navigating the massive museum a little less overwhelming. My only other suggestions would be to avoid the food court (although it’d probably be difficult to do so if you’re spending the entire day here) & to pack your patience!

Recently went to the Louvre. TripAdvisor readers leave some great tips to help navigate - here are a few from me.

Our family of 5 bought timed entry tickets online and downloaded to our phone. We chose a 3:30 pm spot on a Monday, thinking that at least some of the crowds would have died down. We entered via the pyramid and were able to immediate join the very short security line. If you have timed tickets, you are fine to enter via the pyramid.

Since we arrived later in the day, we only planned to walk through the Denon and Richeleau wings. As others have said, the Louvre maps are not very helpful. We did some research on what we wanted to see and where those items were located. The Napolean III apartments and sculptures in the Richeleau wing and the paintings in the Denon wing were our favorites.

Avoid the bathrooms at the entrance - way too crowded. There are enough restrooms sprinkled through the museum. Elevators/lifts can be found in different areas of each wing as needed.

WAY TOO MANY SELFIES. Be prepared, especially around the "must see" paintings. Almost as bad as at Versailles. I wish the Louvre would put a moving walkway in front of the Mona Lisa to move people through quickly.

Today we visited the Louvre Museum for the third time in about 15 years. You need to spend the greater part of a day to see everything. You need to have a comfortable pair of walking shoes and be prepared to walk up and down stairs. The main attractions for us are the Mona Lisa, the Venus de Milo statue and the Italian painters. They have 5 of Da Vinci’s 11 paintings.

We did not spend enough time as this museum requires at least 6 hours to fully explore. Go early to avoid waiting in line outside as it gets crowded.
Did not give it 5 stars as we had difficulty getting information on the audio guides. The staff did not seem to be able to direct us to the audio guides.

Overwhelmingly, achingly beautiful works of art in this museum. We went when it opened on a Thursday, got a great crowd free picture of the Mona Lisa. An hour later, it was pretty crowded.
