“Romantic/Gothic/ and very wonderful indeed”
Reviewed 27 February 2014

Went there with a (platonic) friend for my birthday bash in Paris ~ and I could not have chosen better, I think. The hotel's ambiance is superb, its location spot-on and the staff are great ~ nothing too much trouble and everything first class. The room in which we stayed was spotlessly clean, the bed comfortable (I'm nearly 6ft tall) and clean towels were provided every day. We even had an orchid. My only (slight) regret is that they appear to have toned-down the really wild decor that I remembered from their equally wild and wonderful website of a few years ago.! Great! Go on, you'll enjoy it!

Dear Madam,

We are very happy to know that you have such good memories of your birthday, and are very honored you chose Hotel Bourg Tibourg to celebrate it. Our team is always pleased to treat the guests as they deserve, and we are always looking for new ways to improve our service, as we definitely aim at our service being the icing on the cake of our guests' visit to Paris.

We keep the gothic orientalist decor as it was originally conceived by Jacques Garcia, but we do make renovations every year. Our website was redesigned last year, providing the hotel with a brand new image, more colorful and playful. We hope you enjoy it, even though it is not the same as the traditional one we had, alas!

We look forward to welcoming you again soon.

We chose this hotel for its excellent location in the Marais and boutique style - and we were not disappointed with these. Previous reviewers have commented that the rooms are on the small side, which they were but this was not a problem for us. Our room was spotlessly clean and charmingly decorated.

However, we were disappointed to find that the bed was very short in length - meaning that my husband's feet hung off the end and made sleeping uncomfortable. This would be a problem for anyone over about 5ft 11. His head even hit the ceiling when standing in the (beautifully mosaic tiled) shower.

All in all, this is a lovely hotel - but given the faults we can only give it an average score.

Dear Madam,

We are very grateful for your positive comments on the hotel's decor and cleanliness. Certainly, our rooms are small compared to the standards of hotel chains.

We have intentionally kept them that way, respecting the historic building's architecture and the neighborhood's character, the Marais being the city's medieval center by excellence.
Therefore, the rooms have been decorated, as our designer Jacques Garcia conceived them, to be like cozy jewel boxes, a warm place where guests feel cocooned.

Our beds correspond to the standard French measures (1,60m or 1,80m wide x 1,90m long : 5,2 ft or 5,9ft x 6,2ft). Some rooms, though, are equipped with longer beds (1,80m wide x 2,00 m long: 5,9ft x 6,5ft), available upon request.

We hope to be able to make it up for the bed on your next visit to Paris. If you let us know in advance, we will do our best to suit yours and your husband's needs, our priority being, of course, your comfort.

Kind regards,

Ixel, and the entire Bourg Tibourg Team

Our second stay here and we loved it again. It is not cheap and the rooms are small. But the quirky decor, the marvellous staff, the great location(Marais,Ile De france,Notre Dame etc) and the amazing breakfasts make it into a wonderful experience. It made us forget our terrible cold and the fortunes of the England Rugby team.

Dear Sir,

We love to see our clients come back, because our priority, beyond our engagement with providing an outstanding service, is to build a long-lasting connection with those who visit us, time and again.
We cannot guarantee a British victory in the next rugby game, but we can certainly have a driver at our door, ready to take you to the stadium on time!

Looking forward to your next visit,

Best regards from a sunny Paris,

Let me first start by saying, the decor in here is off the cart AMAZING, so decadent and inviting. Yes, it's dark, but beautifully atmospheric!

Anyway, we arrived here on NYE for a two night stay. After a warm welcome, we explained we had no reservations for dinner yet. Obviously leaving it quite late being New Years Eve! After asking what kind of place we were looking for (local/cosy/delicious), they said they'd sort it out, which they did. And it was perfect!

They invited us to a drinks reception they were holding for guests, so we went down before we went out for dinner. The staff were so lovely telling us about their Marais experiences and recommending places for us to visit and telling us about the history of the hotel. It was a really nice touch.

So, our room was seriously comfortable. we looked out onto the small quaint little courtyard, and had the most amazing little private terrace for us to sit out on.

The lighting in the bedroom was really dark and opulent, gorgeous. We hadn't realised (until just prior to check out!) that the instructions to control the lights were in a little guide, which was in the room all along! So we had muddled through with dimmed lighting for the duration... whoops.

The bathroom was fine, shower was great, big bath too. The only thing was, again, the lighting, not great in here for getting ready.

We had room service breakfast both mornings which was delicious! Fruit, yoghurt, bread, tea/coffee/hot choc, pastries, orange juice.

Location is perfect for exploring the quirky Marais district.

I was sad to leave. The Hotel Bourg-Tibourg is the nicest place I've had the pleasure to stay, and the Marais is just amazing. I would definitely recommend!

Room Tip: The one with the Terrace!

Dear Madam,

It was an absolute pleasure for us to have you as our guest, and even more to have this once-a-year opportunity to share with you our New Year's Eve Cocktail Evening. We are constantly looking for the Marais' best hidden wonders, especially when it comes to dining and going out. We just love to lead our clients into experiencing in full our neighborhood's local color!

The hotel was conceived to have low lighting, aiming to enhance intimacy and coziness, as well as to create a velvet-like atmosphere. But of course, we have supplementary lamps available upon request. We will make sure you have yours put in the room for your next visit.

We look forward to welcoming you soon and will continue to do our best to make your stay unique.

Best regards,

Ixel and the entire Bourg Tibourg Team

I love visiting Paris, and staying at Hotel Bourg Tibourg is always a highlight of my trip. This was my second stay, and if possible, it was more enjoyable than my first. I opted for the Double Deluxe room this time and found it to be another lovely room - with a big window facing the quaint streets of Le Marais and double doors to the stylish (and spacious for Paris standards) bathroom. The staff was so helpful in arranging 3 wonderful meals at nearby locations, serving afternoon tea in my room and just providing unobtrusive, elegant service. I know I will be back, hopefully sooner rather than later.

Room Tip: Book in advance and get special rates.

My husband and I come to Paris frequently, and since finding this hotel we would not stay anywhere else. In the past I have written about charm, cleanliness, the wonderful linens, the jewel box like decor. What I have failed to emphasize is the warmth and helpfulness of the staff. Last year the hotel could not accommodate us for the entire length of our stay, and so reluctantly we switched to another nearby, more expensive hotel (Pavillon de la Reine, where, before finding The Hotel Bourg Tibourg, we stayed for years). The hotel graciously continued to manage all of our restaurant reservations, even though they were very busy, and we'd gone on to somewhere else. Also, upon check out, I had left a Dupont pen belonging to my husband in the hotel safe. Not only did this hotel notify me, but they had the pen delivered to our new hotel.

It is our habit to write to members of the staff in advance of our visits for their assistance in getting restaurant reservations, during our last two stays we now leave a night or two open expressly to have the hotel make their own recommendations. We've never been let down. They have paid attention to our preferences and always suggest new restaurants for us to visit that never disappoint. We've now come to rely on them as heavily as we rely on Paris food blogs.

Worth mentioning as well is breakfast. Usually, when staying in hotels this is something we don't purchase, but at Hotel Bourg Tibourg it is a real treat. First of all, they don't charge extra to have it delivered to your room, and when it does arrive it's a smorgasbord of delights... Fresh fruit cascading off the plate, freshly squeezed orange juice, wonderful pastries and delicious coffee served with hot milk.

There seems to be very little turn over in the staff, and so each year when we arrive, we are greeted by the same beautiful, warm young faces we've come to look forward to.

Hotel Bourg Tibourg...if it's possible, you make us love Paris even more than we already do!

Dear Madam, Dear Sir,

How could we express our gratitude after such a lovely message... It really goes directly to our hearts!!!

On my behalf, and on that of my team, thank you for your loyalty, thank you for your kindness, and most of all thank you for your trust!

Our team is passionate and our daily reward is to have the chance to share all our tips and see that it is appreciated by our guests. An event as the New Year's Eve cocktail is the occasion to share differently and it leaves us with unforgettable memories.

Guests like you... if it is possible, make us love our job even more than we already do ;)

We look forward to welcoming you again soon.

The linens, pillows, bathroom, toiletries, silk curtains and gem coloured decor give this small hotel a feeling of charming and dark decadence. The little bouquets of tulips or roses on console tables around the hotel and the delicious breakfast in bed with great coffee and fresh raspberries and blueberries, is good for the soul every so often or as often as can be afforded. Rooms are small and wardrobe space is discreet! But there rooms are so lush that all you need is a pair of silk pajamas and a pair of jeans and t-shirt if you bother going out!

We have always thought that the essential of a home away from home is to have a nice warm bed to cuddle up, and a good, nourishing breakfast to start the day.

We hope to welcome you again very soon.
