“Mah!”
Reviewed 25 August 2013 via mobile

After a glowing recommendation from a colleague I arrived at the Lavoisier with some positive expectations. What a disappointment.

From the person at reception who smirked behind the back of another guest having difficulty with their wifi system, to the utter coldness of the man who worked the desk at night, the feeling from the staff with whom we had interactions was not positive, with the single exception of the sunny personality of the elegant lady who served breakfast.

It's Paris, so the tiny room was no surprise. It was and remained clean and the cleaners made sure to respect how we arranged the bed linens and our things with surprising care and respect. The air conditioning worked fine, but the nights being cool we turned it off completely. Sadly, our fellow guests did not follow suit, and the competing noise of the other hotel rooms' cooling units gave the effect of sleeping in the street, despite the complete quite of the courtyard we faced. Just to be clear, the noise came from within the hotel, not from our open window.

The wifi system was painfully slow, and required a complete log-in every time the device was paused or closed. I think too many hotels neglect the fact that connectivity is very important for travellers. One can't help but resent the hotel when groping for the slip of paper with the hand-written access codes in the middle of a sleepless night.

We are just back from a 3 night stay in the Hotel le Lavoisier and had a fantastic time.

It was our first time staying in Paris & after reading reviews on Tripadvisor of Hotel le Lavoisier we decided that we would stay there & it definitely was a top choice.

The staff are extremely helpful & friendly which is a big help when it is your first visit to a city like Paris. Our room was a good size & was spotlessly clean, breakfast was traditional French which we thoroughly enjoyed.

The hotel has a great location that is within walking distances to the major tourist sites & large shopping malls, with a taxi rank & metro station all just yards away if you want to go further afield.

For the money, this has to be one of the best value hotels in the city and we would have no hesitation in recommending it or staying in it again!

I stayed 4 nights at the Lavoisier in January and I must say it lived up to my expectations: the room wasn't huge but newly refurbished, very clean and quiet (quite unusual for a Paris hotel). The staff was ok, but a couple of receptionists didnt speak english and were neither kind nor helpful. Breakfast was just average drink plus bread and jam, they asked us an extra fee for a full one with eggs bacon ecc.
Location was perfect - central but quiet and close to 2 underground stations one of which - St.Lazare - you will end up using the most .
Overall, I would suggest the Lavoisier to anyone seeking a small, quiet hotel in central Paris at a reasonable price.

Stayed for 5 nights with my wife. The hotel has a good location close to a metro station and a few minutes walk to Madeleine, Lafayette etc. The rooms are small but confortable, modern, nice bathroom, very clean. The staff is very friendly and helpful. There are lots of restaurants, coffe shops and a supermarket nearby. The only thing I would be glad to have is a mini bar (refrigerator) and a kettle for making coffe or tea in the room.
Good value! We are defenetly recomending it!

We highly recommend Hotel le Lavoisier for following reasons.
1. Superb central location.
- Walking distance to major places, such as Place de Madeleine, Concord and Champs Elysees
- Easy access to the Metro system.
- Quiet
2. Good size room with nice bathroom. They have improved their shower facility.
3. Well trained service oriented staff.
4. Nice boutique hotel at reasonable rate.

This is a small hotel centrally located in the 8th arridisimonte (sp?). You are near the Saint Augustine Metro, Saint Lazare Train Station, La Madeline, etc. We walked to Place de la Concorde, Arc de Triomphe, Place Vendome, Tuileries, Louvre.

The staff are extremely helpful, take an interest in you and cheerfully put up with your mangled French! A continental breakfast is served daily or brought to your room at no extra charge. The best pastry was so delicious and fresh. Best I have ever tasted! There is also an "honesty bar" (meaning help yourself and pay when you check out) on the first floor with some snacks if you choose. However, there are so many cafes, brasseries, restaurants nearby we only had one drink from the bar.

Our room was very comfortable and very clean. We felt the room was perfectly sized, especially by European standards, and it had a soaking tub! We saw some reviews saying a room over the street was noisy. We did not think so and there are large shutters you can close if you would think it is noisy.

I highly recommend this hotel if you are looking for something a little unique and quiet.

Room Tip: We had a room on the first floor over the street and found it very comfortable and quiet.

I had a great stay, the price is a good value, close to a Metro station. They charge 5 Euro for wifi, but that lasts you for your entire stay. The included breakfast is basically bread, juice and coffee with the option to add eggs for very little extra. The rooms are spacious and the bed is very comfortable.

The only disappointment I had was with the Taxi provided by the hotel. I had asked what the fare to the airport (CDG) was and they said 40-50 Euro, so I agreed on that to avoid the hassle of taking the Metro with luggage... as the Taxi arrived, the driver got of the cab, went to the receptionist and pretty much "winked winked" him before helping us with our bags. We had no traffic and ended up paying 75 Euro, they driver messed with the meter a couple of times and even added 4 Euros to the total fare... the whole thing seemed a little shady that the hotel insists on calling the cab for you and advice you to avoid any other method of transportation.
