Visit Sacre Coeur at 8.30am, the Hill empty of tourists and the basilica beautiful and peaceful. Today, the Dominican sisters were praying and singing morning prayer and the few congregation was also in silent prayer it was a perfect opportunity to experience this place of worship. The massive ceiling mosaic is a wonderful work of religious art to contemplate and the morning sun plays nicely on the stonework through the stained glass windows. A wonderful opportunity for stillness. The whole church radiates from the Eucharist which seems to be exposed for adoration all day. Even at busy times this church lifts you out of the mundane and, high on Montmatre, takes you heavenward.

Be ready for those 300+ stairs to the top. It is a serious climb. You can use the machine or buy from the ticket office tucked off to the left down the stairs after you go through security. It can be winding and winding. But the views are simply amazing and you will be catching your breath for more than one reason. Then once back down and inside, you will find yourself staring that the amazing architecture and reverence of the space, even if you are not a Catholic. Take a moment to find a chair and just take in the size of the space, stand in the sunlight being cast through the stained glass. You will not be sorry that you did.

The walk to get there is not for the feint hearted, but once inside sit and become absorbed in the spiritually of the church. A must for Catholic and non-Catholics alike.

Busy place full of tourists from all over the world. Worth seeing - don't bother going inside. The view of the city from the top of the steps is awesome particularly at dusk. Street scene is very vibrant as well. Get some exercise hiking up the stairs 2 at a time. Take the tram if your heart can't handle it.
