This modern hotel is out of the really touristy areas, and located next to the hip Canal St. Martin. It is a little out of the way, but the metro stops are close by and can get you anywhere pretty easily. There are some really wonderful restaurants and shops in the area, and there is a huge market a few blocks down the canal.

The hotel staff were really nice and helpful. They went out of their way to help us with reservations, and to make sure our stay was a good one. They also provide excellent recommendations for restaurants in the area.

The room was a little small, but this is Paris and it can be much worse! The only two minuses would be that there is very little space to put clothes and toiletries in the room and bathroom, and the shower needed a good scrubbing.

They have a delicious complimentary breakfast every morning with fresh pastries, breads, fruits, yogurts, eggs, etc. I was really surprised at how much variety there was and how good and fresh everything was. They provide complimentary bottled water and snacks in the rooms, and they have complimentary wine and snacks in the lobby in the afternoons. All of which is great, especially when the room rates are so relatively reasonable. It was really nice to be able to enjoy a good breakfast while figuring out the plan for the day, and then later to relax with a glass of wine before heading out for dinner.

Overall, it's a great place to stay as long as you don't mind staying a bit off the beaten path. I highly recommend it, and would stay there again in a heartbeat.

I can only agree with the many postiive reviews already written here. Le Citizen is off the beaten track, yes, but it is only a short walk to the Gare De L’est and the Metro, and it is actually nice to be away from the tourists and in “le vrai Paris”. The street (canal side) life is quite lively, but not really a problem unless you want to sleep with windows open, which shouldn’t be necessary as there is good air conditioning. We had an ‘L’ room overlooking the canal: rooms are quite small, but very modern and clean, and the shower room is quite spacious and lovely.
Staff are charming and one of them gave us a great tip for a place to have dinner and made the reservation for us. We are now eternally in her debt because it was one of the best meals we had in France!
Breakfast (delicious and with lots of choice), mini bar, and international phone calls are all included in the price. You are given an iPad for your stay with helpful local information on it.
We were sent lots of helpful information as soon as we had made our booking, (even a YouTube video of how to get from the station to the hotel!) and it is all these little touches that make Le Citizen so special and highly regarded.
Would recommend this hotel to anyone even if you haven’t visited Paris before, it is easy enough to get to all the sights by the Metro.

The room was on the small side but was decorated beautifully and was very stylish. There is street noise from evening gatherers at the canal but that is to be expected on warm evenings. The location is not central to attractions but is surrounded by cafes and restaurants, that a day had to be spent enjoying sampling all the wondrous foods and drinks.
The buffet breakfast is a good, there are a lot of options. Try to sit on the canal side of the breakfast room for a perfect start to your day.
Staff where friendly and made our stay worth the money.
I would stay here again

We have stayed in Le Citizen in July for three nights and the hotel is really nice. The rooms are on the small side (as probably in all hotels in Paris) but nicely decorated and stylishly designed. Also they offer every comfort needed. A big plus is the i-pad which is given to the guests during their stay and which not only includes useful restaurant recommendations and other tips but also provides you with quick and convenient internet access. Great idea!

The location is not central in relation to the "classic" sights near the river. However, the area of Canal St. Martin is for me one of the most interesting in Paris. It might especially appeal to young, alternatively oriented people though.

The only downside was the somewhat indifferent service by the male staff members (for some reason the girls were always very friendly and attentive but not their male colleagues).

From the moment I entered Le Citizen, I sensed I had chosen a truly ‘special’ place. I was greeted by a charming young lady called Laure, who – in addition to cheerfully tolerating my dreadful schoolboy French – made me feel like a guest in her home.

The hotel is in a charming location by the side of the Canal St Martin - more reminiscent of Amsterdam than Paris - and is a 15 minute walk from Gare du Nord (or a 5 minute stroll to the nearest station and then 2 stops on the metro). The local area is full of inviting cafes and restaurants.

There are 12 rooms on 6 floors, serviced by a single elevator. My single room on the 5th floor was small but ingeniously well designed. Free wi-fi, free mini-bar and free local & overseas (landlines) calls are provided as standard, along with an iPad which is packed full of useful information.

I imagine that outside noise may be an issue on the lower floors … although the hotel thoughtfully provides ear plugs.

Not surprisingly, breakfast is a delight. The well-stocked buffet is accompanied by fresh juice, freshly brewed coffee and warm croissants.

As I headed towards Gare du Nord for the Eurostar to London I felt sad to be leaving, and assured Laure that I will return one day … with an improved vocabulary.

Wonderful and warm hotel in a great, off-beat area. Though the rooms are small (expected) they were finished to a high standard and very comfortable, fantastic staff and very welcoming. Good breakfasts and a really nice way to the start the day in the breakfast room watching the canal side bustle. Would highly recommend it and looking forward to returning. The area around the hotel is well worth checking out too, La Patache (with its fluffy grey bar-cat), Marcel (French-Indian restaurant) and other bars to while away the hours. It really felt like we were kind of living there for a while.

We were only in Paris for three days and loved our time we spent realizing in the room, you can't say that for a lot of European hotels. The staff was VERY friendly, responsive ,informative and attentive. We would definitely stay in this hotel again when visiting Paris! Also, love that's a green hotel!

Room Tip: My husband and I stayed in the Zen suite with our 6 year old and there was plenty of room.
