If you want to have a break from Paris, visit Bois de Vincinnes. It's near and it's easy to reach it by metro. It combines sightseeing (the impressive medieval tower and a cute chapel) and relaxation in colourful extensive nearby park (floral park).
You should check the opening hours before visiting the castle, though. As for the park,it's better to go in spring or summer when the flowers have blossomed to enjoy it to the maximum. In the park as in the lake there are paths you can walk or jog in,streams, lakes for sailing.

This is more about the town of Vincennes than the Boi de Vincennes.
What a beautiful little laid back French town. As we all know, Paris is the "city of light", alive,
busy and hundreds of other adjectives that rock the mind, body and soul. Vincennes is the "suburb" of Paris where you can go to relax and enjoy everyday French life in a much more relaxed and slowed down atmosphere. It is a "typical" small size French town with a beautiful city hall, several busy "main" streets, lots of beautiful little cafes, a large "park", the Bois de Vincennes and lots of small side streets for walking and slow paced relaxation. It has a wonderful "farmers market" once a week where you can buy everything from fresh fruit and vegetables to meat, fish. You can stock up on the latest reading material, buy clothing, flowers and take in all the sights, sounds and smells of a busy little French community. There is a wonderful old cemetery worth seeing for it's variety of tombstones and "art work". It also has a metro station which takes you directly into Paris so you don't miss a minute of "night life" if that's your cup of tea. It's a great place to stay and visit for a 180 degree oposite from Paris. It is also quite less expensive and an easy jump to Paris on the metro.

Although I didn't explore much of the green space of the park (which is extensive), I enjoyed the chateau very much. It's not the prettiest castle (built for defense, not a nice appearance like a palace), but the bright white exterior and chapel were cool enough. My only complaint about the castle was its opening times: it's closed for lunch in winter and didn't open in time for me to see the interior before I had to leave.

For a real Parisian experience, pack a picnic basket and plan an afternoon at Bois de Vincennes. Admittance is free. It is a beautiful open green space with a lake and lots of outdoor activities as well as boats available for rent. The day I visited the park was full of people young and old taking in the sun, playing bocce ball, biking, walking and rowing on the lake.

A running and biking paved path, and many soccer fields for playing. Not perfect place for a picnic, but we had one in one of the soccer fields. Kids enjoyed it for a chance to run around outside of the city.
