This place is huge and is a great place to run. The park features a nice combination of soft surface and hard surface trails. This urban park is so big that I actually got lost while running in the park. Possibly the best place in Paris to do a long run.

Chateau de Vincennes is often overlooked by tourists. It is a marvelous day trip just at the end of the line 1 metro. The chateau is made up of a church, the donjon of St. Louis and the main donjon built by Charles V. The main fort has numerous levels and all of them are available to be visited. There is an interactive model on the ground level which will enlighten you to what is available to be seen at each level. The donjon was also used as a prison in the 17th century housing Nicholas Vaux, John Vanbrugh and many other including the Marquis de Sade and the Comte de Mirabeau. The prisoners wrote on the walls of the rooms and it is still visible. The fading walls of the chapel and rooms are also readable. The study of Charles V and his private latrine are in the king's rooms.

This is one of the best kept up chateau of its type in France and well worth a visit. Plan to spend a day there as there is more than meets the eye.

Take advantage of Paris's excellent bike system - Velib, and ride along rue Daumesnil all the way to Bois de Vincennes where you will find kilometres of woodland, lakes, soccer grounds, cafés, horse riding, foxes, playgrounds, sporting clubs and of course the famous Parc Floral ( botanical gardens) and Chateau de Vincennes. Pack a raincoat if travelling in spring as we did. We left in pure blue sky sunshine and experienced hail, sleet, sun and cold winds all in one day. It is easy to get lost in the woods but if you have a bike that is half the fun. Not a lot of velib stations so can't guarantee you will make it to the next in the 30 min free time but for the 1.70 euro it cots per hour it is worth enjoying exploring. On the way back ditch the bike and enjoy walking along the pedestrian only promenade plaintive which runs above the street,

If you want to have a break from Paris, visit Bois de Vincinnes. It's near and it's easy to reach it by metro. It combines sightseeing (the impressive medieval tower and a cute chapel) and relaxation in colourful extensive nearby park (floral park).
You should check the opening hours before visiting the castle, though. As for the park,it's better to go in spring or summer when the flowers have blossomed to enjoy it to the maximum. In the park as in the lake there are paths you can walk or jog in,streams, lakes for sailing.

This is more about the town of Vincennes than the Boi de Vincennes.
What a beautiful little laid back French town. As we all know, Paris is the "city of light", alive,
busy and hundreds of other adjectives that rock the mind, body and soul. Vincennes is the "suburb" of Paris where you can go to relax and enjoy everyday French life in a much more relaxed and slowed down atmosphere. It is a "typical" small size French town with a beautiful city hall, several busy "main" streets, lots of beautiful little cafes, a large "park", the Bois de Vincennes and lots of small side streets for walking and slow paced relaxation. It has a wonderful "farmers market" once a week where you can buy everything from fresh fruit and vegetables to meat, fish. You can stock up on the latest reading material, buy clothing, flowers and take in all the sights, sounds and smells of a busy little French community. There is a wonderful old cemetery worth seeing for it's variety of tombstones and "art work". It also has a metro station which takes you directly into Paris so you don't miss a minute of "night life" if that's your cup of tea. It's a great place to stay and visit for a 180 degree oposite from Paris. It is also quite less expensive and an easy jump to Paris on the metro.
