“Still a fine hotel on my third visit in 30 years”
Reviewed 18 September 2012

Very tidy hotel in an excellent location, well managed with helpful staff. Rooms are small, but quiet with good A/C, beds and WiFi. Breakfast (7.50 euro) was convenient but a bit too simple with so many other choices nearby. The Seine and Notre-Dame de Paris and a multitude of restaurants are within a 10 minute walk. I first stayed at Hotel des Carmes in 1982 and again in 1988 after a major renovation. I was delighted to find that they continue to update the rooms and keep the hotel in great shape.

Stayed at this hotel for two nights 10th/12th July. Although I have used this Hotel many times, this is my first review. The Hotel is situated in the St.Germain district which is a good location for many of the sights. There are many good quality eating places...very close to the Hotel. There is quite a good market near the Hotel in the Rue Ecoles. As I have said in my previous reviews of Paris Hotels...you do not get a lot of value for the rate you pay I had a single room which was quite adequate, with a shower in the small bathroom. It was clean and tidy and they supplied shampoo etc. The Hotel is situated nearto the Cluny Museum, Notre-Dame and the Pantheon. I paid 97 euro per night which did not include breakfast, but there are many cafes a short distance from the Hotel. This is a good 2 star Hotel in a good loction, for sightseeing and public transport..

Hotel des Carmes is a great little hotel in the Latin Quarter, between the Pantheon (south) and Cathedral Notre Dame (north). What makes this hotel work, inside, is the design--by which I mean not fancy decor, but the efficient use of space: cozy, comfortable rooms with functional amenities--air-conditioning, free strong Wi-Fi, TV, closet, side tables, desk, room to walk. Some charm, too: our room had a cute balcony overlooking the street, accessible via floor-to-ceiling windows, openable for fresh air. On the outside, it is the location--steps to the Maubert Mutualite metro stop, cafes, boulangeries (several in the neighborhood, but we went to the closest, on rue des Ecoles, west of rue des Carmes), bars (Bar a Bieres on rue des Ecoles, east of rue des Carmes), a sandwich shop (down the street at Blvd St. Germain), restaurants (e.g., Terra Nova for pizza, Godjo for Ethiopian), etc. (See photos.) Rue Mouffetard, especially, is choc-a-block with restaurants catering to locals. Stayed in a triple room on the 5th floor (523) with two teenage kids--balcony overlooked the street, still quiet. Front-desk extremely friendly & helpful. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the street, such as 523, are probably more interesting, while still quiet.

We found this 2 star hotel to be very comfortable, clean and very well located, and it provided everything we wanted. The rooms are small but adequate and we had a street view. We were on the 6th floor with a small balcony and noise was not a problem. Rooms have been recently renovated and the property was being painted externally while we were there. There is also a lift. The hotel is close to the MRT and is surrounded by good bistros, restaurants and basic food outlets, without being too touristy. We could easily walk to the Seine and to many attractions. Breakfast was an extra cost and was adequate. Staff were extremely helpful and could speak English. We would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: A good value hotel in the Latin Quarter

It is always scary booking a hotel from so far away. You never know what to expect. Hotel des carmes is a fantastic place to stay. Value for money. The rooms are plenty big enough and have opening windows and air con. They are meticulously clean

The hotel is easy to get to on public transport. The RER and Metro are both close even with luggage. We came from Charles de Gaulle with bike bags and cases on the train. Location is excellent. Easy to get to all destinations from here and easy walking distance to restaurants, bars and all shopping

The hotel staff are the best. Couldn't be more helpful. We could buy food and wine and eat in the dining room. They made available knives, plates etc. we could enjoy our own wine in the lobby. They opened it and gave us glasses. Special thanks to Maria for understanding our need for copious quantities of coffee and for arranging the shuttle.

Also thanks to Luc for being so friendly and helpful. Both of these people made our stay very enjoyable.

Room Tip: The rooms overlooking the street tend to be noisy if you want to have your window open. They are fin...

For first time travelers to Paris, this could not have been a more well located hotel. We were within walking distance to many wonderful shops, cafes, and bakeries. Also very close to river, Notre Dame, Sainte Chapelle, and also walkable to Louvre and Orsay. Also super close to both metro and train stations if you needed them! Room and bath were very clean and were very happy with accomodations, as we were really only there to shower and sleep. Staff amazingly friendly, especially Luc during the day! If you are looking to stay in any sort of budget while traveling to Paris so that you may have more money to actually enjoy the city itself, this is definitely the perfect place to stay! :)
