This is our second time staying at the Familia and we were not disappointed. Our room (designated "superior" was on the 4th floor, on the interior side and was a nice size, comfortable and quiet. It had a couch, which we used for our suitcases, along with a small closet. The bathroom was clean and well-appointed.
The staff was friendly and very helpful – even printing our boarding passes for us. The dining room staff and the housekeepers were also pleasant and helpful.
The location could not be better – near metro stops, buses, walking distance to Notre Dame, gardens and restaurants. We will definitely stay here again when we return to Paris.

Room Tip: "Superior" room is worth the extra 10 euro.

Four of us (two couples), trained to Paris from a walking trip in Provence and rented 2 rooms in the Familia Hotel for 3 nights (after which we flew back to the U.S. out of CDG airport). The cost per couple per night was about $150 which also covered breakfast for two. The hotel is located in the Latin Quarter and is an easy 15 minute walk from the Gare de Lyon train station. We found it nicely situated for visiting Paris--near subway and bus stops, surrounded by good eating restaurants, and very close to Notre Dame and other famous sights. Both of our rooms were on the second (really 3rd) floor and each had a useable balcony overlooking rue des Ecoles. The rooms were surprisingly quite considering their location. The hotel and rooms although a bit aged, were clean, and typically small but comfortable. The hotel staff, especially Nicolas, were incredibly friendly and helpful with transportation and dinner issues. We all agreed that if we ever return to Paris, we would gladly stay at the Familia again.

I stayed in the hotel four nights in early October 2013. Found the hotel on Trip Advisor and it was also highly recommended by Fodor's as a good choice for a budget hotel in Paris. The room was on the 6th (top) floor and very small, but adequate and clean. There was a musty smell in the bathroom, because of lack of venting, but that would be my only complaint. A small elevator is available so no problem. My room had a window, but no balcony and faced sideways away from the street. The English speaking staff were very accommodating and friendly and answered my questions. I bought some cheeses and wine and they offered storage in their fridge. Also the loan of an adapter to recharge my camera battery. The location was perfect. Bus stop across Rue du Ecoles, the Metro one block up the hill (otherwise flat walking in the area). The American diner type restaurant to the left of the hotel was interesting and there were plenty of restaurants, two supermarkets and fashion shopping within walking distance. St. Germain and the Seine River were a mere 12 minute walk and the connecting point for the Paris Hop on Buses to merge. I could not have chosen the location any better. I travelled all four routes on the Buses, plus the Batobus along the Seine. The Latin Quarter is interesting and very safe for a woman to walk during the day. It was my first trip to Paris and gave me a wonderful experience. I would recommend the hotel to others bearing in mind it is budget, but certainly met my needs.

Familia hotel

Our Paris trip for 6 days was fabulous. Many thanks to TA for all the advise, tips and recommendations.
I would like to post about the familia hotel in the Latin quarter where we stayed. First there are positives to this hotel but there are as many negatives. The location is great. We were very close to two metro stations. The pantheon and notre dame are within walking distance as is St. Germaine and the gardens. The staff at the hotel was very friendly and spoke English. the breakfast was good, coffee, juice, baguettes and croissants. More than enough to get you through the morning. I realize you get what you pay for but the hotel is in need of an update. The bathrooms need to have the mold removed and brighter lights and repair the shower that leaks all over the floor. I asked the staff to please not put the bedspreads on our beds. They looked dingy and were very bulky. The pillows on the bed were a long roll that were lumpy. I asked for square pillows and they provided them without hesitation. There was a small desk and chair in the room but they can do without that since there is absolutely no room to sit on the chair. They could instead put in a small dresser to store your clothes in since there is a only a closet with about 10 hangers. There is a mini frig which was nice to keep drinks and food cold in. Overall if the hotel would paint, use some brighter colors, update the bathrooms, fix the holes in walls and torn carpet, it would be very acceptable.

We stayed at the Familia Hotel the first week of October. Rooms are small, like everywhere else in Europe, but the location is excellent( walking distance to almost everywhere), staff is friendly and helpful, especially Nicholas, and the price is very, very reasonable! Our room had a small balcony with a view of Notre Dame(rooftop). Breakfast was warm delicious baguettes, croissant, soft cheese and delicious coffee(2 full cups, as opposed to a tiny expresso).

There are many restaurants within walking distance, particularly on St Germaine. The only negative was a rather noisy beer hall around the corner from the hotel. Okay with the windows closed or fan on.
