My wife and I stayed here for 2 months in 1974. We stayed again with our 7 year-old daughter in 1987. Just celebrating, our fortieth, we returned. In the 40 intervening years of travel this remains the one place I will always return to. Madame Fortin and her staff are the most considerate group of of people in hotel life. From manager to breakfast to housekeeping. I'm grateful to everyone there for making us feel welcome. The gardens are as close to Eden as I know.

Room Tip: Ask for a garden facing room.

We stayed here for 4 nights in Paris, and we could not have asked for a better place! It was within walking distance of most sightseeing spots and many great restaurants! Another bonus is the close proximity to the Metro which is quite helpful! We would without a doubt stay here again - the staff is lovely and very welcoming! Be sure to take some time out of your day to sit and enjoy the beautifully designed courtyard surrounding the hotel's entrance! Overall, a great place!

a family run hotel that most discerning seasoned travelers to PARIS clamor for . you can walk almost everywhere from the hotel except maybe MONTMARTRE, which is the only time I took the metro. it`s a short walk to the SEINE and NOTRE DAME . LATIN QUARTER is undeniably one of the best "HOODS " of PARIS . tons of fun restaurants and super great evening energy buzz. BEAUCOUP DE CHANCE( GOOD LUCK) securing a reservation in the height of tourist season .the HOTEL is a jeweled refuge with a delightful garden to sit and gaze and reflect on your good fortune that you were ensconced in a hotel that you would recall with delight, years from when you were there.

We visited Paris with our two children for three days. The hotel is located in one of the most typical quartiers of Paris (quartier Latin). It is charming, not the newest furniture but clean and the staff is friendly. For the price of the hotel, everything was perfect.

We have stayed at the Hotel des Grandes Ecoles in past years, and returned for another stay in March. We love where it is situated, quite convenient to the Metro and just below the Contrescarpe where there are many restaurants and cafes. The Hotel is situated behind a walled entrance with a small door, which opens onto a lovely courtyard with gardens filled with birdsong. There are several buildings in a U shape around the gardens, and the office is in the one to the left. The staff are very welcoming and helpful. There is a safe available in the office, and they are happy to make dining or other tourist recommendations. They offer a breakfast option for a small fee, but there are so many places to eat on the same street we chose to eat at Les Descartes, the just up the hill. Our accommodation was once again lovely, clean, and quiet, with free wi-fi service. We feel as though we are out in the countryside instead of on the left bank--then when you walk through the doorway, you are in the midst of wonderful shops and restaurants. We will certainly stay here again on our next trip to Paris.

Room Tip: We prefer the rooms across the courtyard from the office, they are a little newer and have ensuite b...

I travelled to Paris with my husband in November 2013. This is our first time to Paris. With fairly limited budget and because of Paris' security condition, we finally found this hotel with most descent and good location.

It's only like 5 mins away from the subway, and the way to subway is safe and clean. There are lots of restaurants and cafes nearby which are in different styles and budgets.

The mini garden in the hotel definitely made the hotel value added. Room are simple, clean and with good warmer. Not very old but definitely not brand-new.

We chose double room with garden view. Since we went to Lyon and stay over there for one night then come back to this hotel again, we stayed in 2 different rooms in the hotel. One is at the ground floor and the other on 1/F. The ground floor one is nicely facing directly to the mini garden, but quiet and with privacy. Huge bathroom compare with the 1/F. For the room on 1/F is also nice. But the window can't close entirely.

Staff are helpful but can't expect the same hospitality in somewhere like Thailand or Japan. They're helpful and friendly in the French way, you know. At the first night when we arrived, our door lock was broken and we were locked inside the room. Since no one escort us to the room and our room is at the corner of the garden, we don't know how to call the conciege. I had to scream and ask some neighborhood passed-by for help. At the end the staff come and found out the lock had to be repaired and he had arranged us another room for us to stay. Fair enough. All these happened at around 8pm, which we are satisfy with their special arrangement.

We will definitely consider to stay here again.

One more tips, remember to collect travelers' guide at the conciege which offer 20% off discount at lafayet and printemps.

After all, we fell in love with Paris. :)

We've now stayed here four times and after all these years it's the only hotel in Paris that I want to come back to. Enter the quiet courtyard, and you have a welcome respite from the noise and bustle of the city. The rooms are tasteful (period decor), the beds comfortable and the bathrooms large. It's not fancy (no TV or minibar), but very pleasant and livable, close to the metro, restaurants and the trendy Contrescarpe area. You can sit and relax in the courtyard and feel very much "at home". The breakfast is good and plentiful, but the service is sometimes slow. The people at the reception desk are very friendly and hospitable.
