“Membership is incredibly expensive”
Reviewed 20 June 2014 via mobile

I have never been a member of the American Library because their membership is prohibitively expensive (& I have free access to many libraries with no charge). However, they do offer some interesting conferences and activities for adults and children which are interesting (you do not need to be a member to attend) so my advice is to keep an eye on their website if you live in Paris.

“A home away from home in Paris”
Reviewed 23 February 2014

Visitors and residents alike who know the American Library in Paris just love the place, and with good reason. Located virtually under the shadow of the Eiffel Tower, it is a little haven of all things American. "Why would I want to go there when I'm in Paris to experience France?" you might ask. Because. You can get a day pass for 14 euros or a week pass for 28 euros which gives you unlimited access to the collections (including periodicals) and unlimited wifi access. There are activities for all age groups. If you are visiting Paris with children, it can be a great way to give them a little bit of home. And oft times a way to meet locals. And one of the best parts: their used-book table, with most selling for about 1 or 2 euros, so if you didn't want to lug books in your suitcase, you are in luck. A very welcoming staff. When I lived in Paris I was a member, and what a bargain membership is, if you think of the savings from not having to purchase English-language books, CDs and DVDs.
