“Nice Boutique Hotel near everything.”
Reviewed 30 June 2011

My husband, son and I recently stayed at Hotel d'Angleterre for 3 nights. My husband and I had a classic double room, while my son had a single room. The hotel itself was clean and inviting, with an intimate feeling we like in a boutique hotel. All the staff members were helpful and friendly. We did have a few issues with our room, which had to do with hotel design and layout and not with anything within the control of the management. There was no air conditioning in our room or in my son's room. I'm not sure about the other rooms. Being the end of June, the rooms were very stuffy and warm. Our room was on the first floor, next to the outdoor patio/breakfast area, so when we opened our windows to get air at night, we were subjected to the noise in the early morning of setting up for breakfast. Also, the toilet was in its own separate closet, on the opposite side of the hotel room and the bathroom, including the badet, which made no sense whatsoever. We had to walk across the room and into the bathroom to wash our hands after using the toilet. Very inconvenient. Our son's room was on the second floor and he opened his windows to get a nice breeze. I feel his room was a good value, considering the location of this hotel on the Left Bank. We took advantage of the continental breakfast every morning and it was always fresh and delicious. We would probably stay here again in a cooler month and would definately inquire more specifically about the layout of a room before booking. The staff, cleanliness and location of the hotel made the stay an overall positive experience.

Room Tip: Ask specifics about room layout before booking.

For service, location and value, the Hotel d’Angleterre definitely deserves four stars. It’s a worthy alternative to some of the bigger pricey hotels in Paris. The hotel is small but attractive, and has a quaint courtyard that would be perfect for breakfast or evening cocktails in the summer (we stayed in January). Our room was a small suite that had plenty of space for us and our two small children. The room itself was charming, with beamed ceilings and pretty French country style tiled bathroom with an antique sink. The only reasons I wouldn’t give it 5 stars are (1) some of the furnishings are seriously starting to show their age, and (2) parking is a problem. With a few renovations, the place could truly be a hidden gem.

It’s a great location for exploring Paris – about a 15 minute walk to the river and 5 minutes from shopping and cafes/brasseries. The front desk staff recommended a fantastic Italian restaurant for us about 10 minutes from the hotel. The breakfast room is small and gets a little tight on space at peak time, but the breakfast was more than adequate with fresh fruit, breads, pastries, cereal and eggs available for order.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay at Hotel d’Angleterre and would definitely stay there again next time we visit Paris.

There are only four very small rooms for 140 euros including breakfast that are not even listed on the hotel's website, but if you can snag one you'll have a quiet location in a great location with outstanding service.

Very close to all the attractions. We like walking and it is easy to get to the Louvre, Notre Dame, Mussee ¨'orsay, the Eiffeltower from this hotel. There is also a Metro station close by and a lot of nice brasseries around the corner. It is an expensive area though, but if you just stay for a couple of nights the location is the most important. The rooms are charming, we had a suite with two bedrooms and a huge bathroom.

A wonderful little open air yard where you can have your breakfast if the weather allows. Breakfast was terrific!

This is our second stay at Hemmingway's old haunt and we love the location, the helpful staff, generous breakfast spread and that each room is unique. Our first stay was in Room 40, a superior room on the second floor with a nice view of the flower-filled courtyard. This time, we stayed one night on a ground floor room (Room 35 I think) that was quiet but only had a bath tub (we tall Americans need a shower). When we returned to Paris for a longer stay a week later, we were in Room 38, which was a little too close to the courtyard action (we like to sleep with the windows open and we could hear people walking by). The long, narrow room was divided into a cute entry, tiny living room, closet, bedroom and bath with a shower. The hotel is super clean. We have made plans to pay a little extra and return to the superior room next time.

We stayed in one of the junior suites overlooking the street. It was very lovely, just as the photos show. Gorgeous large bathroom with all the amenities. The complimentary breakfast in the morning room was a leisurely and elegant way to start the day. The staff was friendly and discreet. The hotel does not have air conditioning, but that was not necessary at all in April. The location was perfect -- in easy walking distance to the Musee D'Orsay and Louvre. Wonderful restaurant at 33 Rue Jacob, right across the street.

My wife and recently stayed at the Hotel D'Angleterre for a couple of nights. We'd heard about the hotel from friends who'd enjoyed staying here and, having stayed at an uninspired selection of near-by hotels, we decided to give the D'Angleterre a try. We stayed in a suite and were charge Euro 285 / night. The room (No. 46) was dingy (peeling wallpaper) and the furniture and carpets tired. The bathroom was equally grim and the stairway leading up to the room should have been redorated a decade ago. The lobby and the breakfast room were perectly nice and the staff was friendly and helpful. Having read the reviews on TripAdvisor I can only assume that the hotel has some pleasant rooms and some lousy ones. Certainly our room didn't having anything in common whatsoever with the much nicer looking rooms pictured in the hotel lobby. The location is great - but there are any number of cheaper (and equally tired) hotels on or near the Rue Jacob. Save your money - or look for a hotel with greater consistency.
