“Perfection, as far as we are concerned”

We have been visiting Paris every year for nearly thirty years and this area is by far our favourite in which to stay. Our second stay at this hotel was as satisfactory as the first. It is very Parisian in feel - we do not like bland, characterless establishments - but immaculately clean etc and we have always found all the staff perfectly charming. On this stay we set off for home via the metro, only to find that the train terminated at the next stop. The queue for taxis was huge... we rang the hotel and they arranged for a taxi to be waiting by the time we struggled all the way back to them with our luggage. They could not have been more helpful.
This is a bustling area of small art galleries, interesting shops and many great bars and restaurants. Around the corner from the Boulevard Saint-Germain, the rue Jacob itself is reasonably quiet so that we feel that one has the ideal combination of being in a peaceful setting but still at the centre of things. We appreciate being able to throw open our window and look out and much prefer that to air conditioning!
It's not particularly cheap but it is, we think, excellent value and we will certainly be staying there again. ps as we left an American couple were excitedly photographing the hotel's old wooden outer doors!

Room Tip: We always enjoy being at the front of a hotel in Paris as we like the street scene, but I think othe...

This was our third stay in the Angleterre. We enjoy staying on the left bank in Paris and this hotel is in an ideal location. The hotel is in Rue Jacob, which is a nice street. It is very close to Laduree, the famous pastry/macaron shop. This is literally a 2 minute walk from the hotel. You can walk to the Louvre and the Musee D'Orsay and Notre Dame from here. Also Rue Des Arts, which is a nice area for walking around and exploring the local cafe culture is not to far away.

We had a junior suite which overlooks the garden. The location is peaceful and you do not realise that you are in the middle of Paris when you are sitting in the garden. It is nice to have a drink in the garden at the end of a days walking around Paris. The junior suite room is pricey but adequate. However, if you stay in August, you get a 20% discount, which makes it more affordable. It is clean and I would describe it as having typically charming Paris decor. It is not modern. However, for the prices charged, they should have an iron and ironing board in the room and a safe that works.

We found the staff to be pleasant and helpful, whilst not overly familiar. The breakfast consists of croissants, jams, toast, cereals, coffee, tea, and cheese.

This is a charming Parisian hotel in a great location but do not stay here if you are looking for a modern five star full service hotel.

Hotel d'Angleterre has it all: charming rooms, great location, history, extremely friendly and helpful staff, lovely indoor dining area and outdoor courtyard for breakfast (included in room rate). A short walk to Musee d'Orsay, Deux Magots. book stalls on the Seine, and much more. It is beautifully positioned for exploring this most beautiful city. Hemingway is just one of many famous guests.

Room Tip: room 25 has view of garden courtyard, Parisian rooftops and Sacre Coeur in the distance

Hard to understand the good reviews. Agreed about the rude staff, simply terrible. Made us feel very unwelcome. Would never go back, lots of better hotels in the area.

Well, mybe not so pricy for Paris, but still! Arrived late, got a very friendly welcome by the nightshiftdude, could even take our bikes inside. Place is elegant, room was nice, but nothing special and a bit expensive. Breakfast was ok, nothing special either. The salons are elegant and the hotel is well situated in St. Germain des Prés.... Will not return, because found a much cheaper and more charming one in Paris;)

I travel a lot for work and pleasure and I've never been treated more rudely than I was at this hotel. The front desk staff was aggressive and extremely unhelpful. It was actually shocking, and pretty much ruined what should have been a nice weekend getaway. There are several other 3 star hotels on Rue Jacob and I would strongly suggest looking into one of those.

I stayed at this Hotel with a friend after a family recommendation. I particularly wanted to stay in this area and love this particular street. The hotel is what you'd expect in Paris I think. Small & charming with antiques etc. However - the staff did tell me never to book a standard room as they were very small! Luckily I'd picked a superior room, which was 2 twin beds, small separate toilet (next to one of the beds), a step up onto a raised area with table & 2 chairs overlooking the street with wide shutters. The bathroom was at the far end of the room. So a bit quirky - strange having the toilet separate but we didn't mind it. Bags of character - lovely staff. Breakfast was near the lobby or in a small courtyard which was lovely. Croissants, pain as chocolat, cheeses & meats etc.....standard continental breakfast. The hotel is in such a great area, 2 minutes to fab shops, Laduree cafe& patisserie is just along the road which is an absolute must. Jewellery shops, clothes, loads of restaurants.....its all in this area. The metro is a 5 min walk, Notre Dame 10 min walk......I could go on..... All in all fairly expensive but most hotels are.....you're paying for ther location as well. My mum had stayed there as well & said they got an amazing brown marble bathroom, so think all the rooms are different. Would stay there again....

Room Tip: Make sure you book a superior room as more room
