Shangri-La Hotel Paris

Paris brings nothing in terms of value for money to the traveller. The rooms are small, the service minimal. However the new breed of asian hotels entering into the Parisian Market will bring new energy to the tired establishment. The shangri-la brings to paris the amazing service you would expect from asia with the fine french sensibility of style and refinement. Forget about George V. this is where it is at. the hotel is just around the corner from the main attractions and yet far away enough to get away from it all. Like an oasis, it is like coming home. the staff provide prompt but invisible service. your needs are met even before you actually anticipate it. impossible to imagine? stay there and you will see. The best hotel I have ever stayed in.

Room Tip: Restaurants are pricy. The food is overpriced for simple foods like the asian cuisine. So step out a...

The duplex suit we had for over two tousands per night was rather strange as architecture, shallow staircase, with no separate bedroom and living space and a single toilet. And the worst was the noise from the kitchen from early morning till late night.
The property is really nice, but a pure waist of all its potential. There's no open space terrace or garden dining, no swimming pool, no flowers or green pots in the rooms, in the lobby or at the terraces. The stuff was helpful but not exceptional.

What else can I say? Service is excellent. From the moment you stop your car in front. They have thought of every little detail.
I would suggest other star hotels to send their staff to to take note as to how it's done. Perfect.

We have just spent a wonderful weekend at this hotel in Paris. We were upgraded to an Eiffel Suite ... Wow.

The breakfasts were expensive but amazing ... Enough to fill you up till tea time!!

The service and attention to detail was superb.

Our room was noisy in the evening (lots of banging doors) but we had a great time and loved our room and the Shangri-La.

The pros : exceptional service, definitely the best staff I've ever met in any Parisian hotel. Beautifully restored historical building, providing a balanced mix between classical furniture and contemporary equipment. Some minor maintenance issues were immediately and efficiently resolved. Concierge are very knowledgeable.

The cons : works in the building next door can be noisy at times. We were not informed at the time of the booking that the two main restaurants of the hotel would be closed during our stay. Price of rooms is significantly above the average of the other hotels in Paris.

This was our first visit to this hotel, albeit we are not strangers to the hotel group in our travels to Asia, in fact having only checked out of the Kowloon residence on Monday of the same week.

We have always found the level of Shangri La service to be excellent and Paris was no exception. On arrival we were greeted and checked in efficiently and our requests for tickets and passes were dealt with very efficiently.

The hotel décor is really quite stunning and different to any other Shangri La hotel that we have previously visited. The furnishing and furniture are truly in keeping with the typical French period style in line with the building’s date and all are of the very highest quality.

Having reserved a table at restaurant Jules Verne (JV), shortly after entering the establishment, we decided that the lack of efficient air conditioning was not going to be conducive to a pleasurable dining experience and so we returned to the hotel and dined at the Bauhinia restaurant. We were not disappointed. The Asian menu was simply terrific, the service, advice and overall care taken by the restaurant staff were truly delightful in comparison to the disapproving looks we received from staff when leaving the JV.

On the morning of our departure, having shopped unsuccessfully for a couple of days for a particular flavour and brand of liqueur, we asked the Concierge Desk if they could locate it, really more in hope than expectation. To our great surprise when returning the hotel later that same afternoon, we were greeted by the news that they had located two bottles that awaited us in our room.

If there is one particular downside to our experience it would be the continuing extensive renovation of the hotel, which is not mentioned on their website. While we were not too disturbed by the work being undertaken, it is imaginable that someone arriving with jetlag may have found the slight noise and sight of builders rather off-putting. However, we did not request a room change which, if our past experience at other group hotels is anything to go by, would probably have been accommodated.

Also, we are very fond of tea, and the traditional Shangri La China tea in our room on arrival did not disappoint. However, a couple of further very minor gripes are that whenever we used the in-room teacups provided, they were not replaced, meaning a phone call and wait until brought up. In addition and probably in deference to the Continental European preference for coffee, a coffee machine is provided, but the customary small teapot - found in other group hotels - is not, but again we did not request one.

Overall we would have no hesitation in recommending this property which, although could be considered expensive, offers exceptional levels of service, surroundings, amenities, and in addition is ideally located. A very short walk to the Paris Métro, a short walk to the Eiffel Tower and slightly longer walk to the Champs-Elysées / Arc de Triomphe etc.

This small boutique like hotel was an absolute pleasure to stay at. The amazing service just lifts you into their soft arms like the feeling you have after a wonderful massage. The rooms were large and plush with all the amenities you would expect and more. The attention to detail both in the room and throughout the hotel is amazing. The food is excellent for room service.

The only negatives are the price - it is very pricy, particularly at the restaurants. Second, the location is walkable, but getting a cab is a bit difficult at times.
