“Great Location, Charming”
Reviewed 16 August 2014

Friendly, helpful staff were always available. The location was great, with very easy access to tourist sites, walking and using the Metro. The shared computer was always available when the room's WiFi signal was not strong. The rooms were small but comfortable, the passage and hotel reception area charming. We did return for a couple of nights in August and would do so again if in Paris.

Characterful hotel, centrally situated in the interesting Passage du Jouffroy. Staff very friendly and helpful. The continental breakfast was good value. Cheaper rooms without a view are small and dark, but comfortable and clean.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view over the rooftops, although the rooms without a view are quite adequate.

Stayed here for about 5 nights. The staff was helpful and nice, location was good and we walked to almost all of our sightseeing. The rooms were clean and nice. We ate breakfast here a couple of times and it was okay. It was a cozy, small hotel witch I recommend !

This is a good place to sleep if you're looking for an economical stay in Paris, well situated (close to Metro) and about 20 - 30 minute walk to Sacre Coeur. However, if you,re looking for more amenities such air conditioning, a comfortable bed; pay the extra money if you can. On our first night, we were given a tiny room with two single beds. The beds were extremely uncomfortable (foam mattresses). However, the next morning, I asked if I could have another room and the girl at the front desk immediately gave me a few options to look at.

The hotel itself is quaint. In a nutshell, this is what we thought:

PROS: Location, price, hospitality. Breakfast was Ok for only 8 Euros. Not much selection but hey, at 8 Euros, who can complain? Front desk is courteous and usually ready to help with information. Nicely decorated rooms.

CONS: NO air conditioning. We opened our windows but that wasn't enough to get a draft. Since the hotel is considered 'a historical building', the rooms are not soundproofed, therefore one can hear the guests in adjacent rooms. Wifi signal was very weak from our room and we opted to use the hotel computer on the 1st floor. Elevator is tiny but most are in France.

If you need a room to sleep in for one or 2 nights, this is Ok especially if you,re on a tight budget.

Room Tip: Originally had room 305. Switched to 307 which was a tad larger and had 2 windows which permitted us...

I wish I liked this hotel better than I did.
We were on the first floor and, as others have said, it was pretty stuffy.
Our tiny bathroom had no tub, only a shower, and it was awkwardly designed so that it was hard to close the bathroom door and easy to stub one's foot on the shower edge. Neither my husband nor I are very big folks. Anyone significantly overweight would have had trouble turning around in the bathroom.
The beds were hideously uncomfortable - hard as rocks and also very very low, so anyone with mobility issues might have had trouble getting out of them.
The twin room was tiny. We could not move around without bumping into each other.
On the positive side, it was clean enough, everything worked. The lighting was remarkably bright for a budget hotel.
We did not get much noise, as our room faced an interior courtyard-type area, but it would have been possible for it to be noisy, depending on what was going on in the other buildings.
Because I need protein in the morning, we could not eat breakfast there - unlike some hotels, that at least provide some cheese, this one provides only carbs. That's fine for some folks, so not necessarily a negative, although one does need to pay extra for the breakfast.
I realize it's only a 2 star hotel and perhaps it's very good for that category. I am unlikely to return.

Room Tip: Ask in advance for what you want. For example, I was desperate for a tub but asked too late.

The Hotel Chopin is not "average." It is both amazing and uncomfortable. It is charming, well located, and quiet. The rooms feel quaint and traditional. But they are super small, and very stuffy. We stayed on the 2nd floor, and had to keep the bathroom window closed when we were gone and while we slept, because someone could have entered it from the rooftop (flat and accessible); therefore, there was no cross circulation, and it was quite warm and airless. If we could have left two windows open, or if there were AC, I would definitely give this hotel 4 stars for its charm and terrific location, right next to cafes, shops, and a metro stop.

Hotel Chopin is the answer if you are looking for a safe, clean, reasonably priced hotel in Paris. Expect rooms to be smaller in size, compared to hotels in the US and Canada. Near the famous Grevin Museum in the Passage Jouffroy- a historical edifice with numerous shops. Hotel staff are courteous and efficient. English is spoken at the front desk. The hotel is close to several tourist destinations, walking distance to The Opera, shopping at the Galleries Lafayette and Printemps store. Would definitely recommend.
