This was our first trip to Paris, France and found the hotel while searching online. We spent three days here. The location is fantastic and is within walking distance to shopping and restaurants and many tourist sites. (You can actually walk to the Eiffel Tower from the hotel, however, we took a taxi back to the hotel.) The hotel is located on the right bank of the Seine across from the Louvre. Our experience with the room was great because on arrival we were told we were being upgraded to an apartment. The hotel is currently undergoing renovations to about 70 of its rooms. We were given a two bedroom, three bath, apartment complete with kitchen. The apartment was very clean and private. The fridge came in handy for the wine and cheese we bought and snacked on each night before going out to dinner. The apartment had a balcony with a view of the park, Louvre and Eiffel Tower. It was awesome. We ate at the hotel's restaurant when we arrived the first night very late and it was okay. There are much better restaurants and brasseries all over the city so it's best to venture out. The front desk staff and concierge were very friendly and helpful.

We stayed at this hotel at the tail end of our honeymoon after getting married in Italy and travelling Italy for a month. Bit of a shock the prices of everything, food in particular in Paris, but thats Paris I suppose, get used to it if you want to travel there. Hotel is in a great spot (especially for the finish of the tour de france), metro station and Tuileries park and Louvre straight across the street, and restaurants and shopping (for the missus) all close by. Hotel is going through renovations (don't ask for room 409) which is needed to bring this grand old place into the 21st century. The 3pm check in was tough especially when arriving from an overnight train at 7am, this should be made a little clearer on the hotel booking websites. Staff were helpful, but rooms need to be worked on as well. They found out were we on our honeymoon and arranged for Champagne and chocolates to be delivered to our room on our first night and upgraded us to a much larger room (at no extra charge) for our remaining 4 nights (very nice touch). If you can deal with the renovations happening, you can get a very good deal online, and for it's position, well worth the stay.

On the way to Paris just the other day, I read some of the reviews and thought to myself that I perhaps should have done some more thorough inquiries before booking. Too late for that however. So arriving at the hotel was a very pleasant surprise.
Paris certainly has it's share of fairly run-down hotels charging ridiculously rates as if there was no tomorrow. Saint James & Albany is however not one of them.
We booked the hotel on lastminute.com and got a rate significantly lower than I'd have expected. We had booked a 3 bed suite, and got a very nice room with separate bath and toilet facilities. Beds and mattresses very good quality. Breakfast caters for any taste, and there's plenty of it. In our case, the room was at the 7th floor, aircon delivering a steady 19 degrees celcius over our 3 days stay. Windows was facing the backyard, and even with the windows opened, no noise from from traffic or anything else to bother us.
Best feature, not that the other features lacks anything, however is the location. Absolutely smack bang middle of where you want to be if you visit paris. Metro just across the road. Louvre just a stone-throw down the road. Place de Concorde just a stone-throw in the opposite direction. We will definitely be coming back to this hotel again.
Forgot to mention, the hotel handed me a free 14 days free wifi/internet voucher. The connection worked a dream at all times....

We spent four wonderful nights at the St James & Albany Hotel. It has recently been upgraded which enhanced our first impressions as we walked into the hotel. Service was fantastic, food was good and people were friendly. The position of this hotel is ideal as you are across the road from the Toulleries Gardens and Metro. The Louvre is almost on your doorstep and there are hundreds of wonderful bistro's and restaurants in close proximity. We could not have asked for more!!!

My family of six spent three nights at this place. We booked three rooms, so we were not an insignificant booking. The hotel is a 4 star fraud! To begin with, the rooms were dirty. The carpeting was soiled and bunching up from the floor. We did not even want our feet to touch the floor surface. The bathroom sinks were plastic and the wall tiles broken. The air conditioning in two of the rooms did not work and it was more than 85 degrees in the rooms. Since it was Paris, we expected the tiny rooms. But we could not believe the poor condition of the rooms, the cheap worn furnishings and the overall grundgy feeling that pervaded the place. I requested that we be moved to a better rooms. I was told that better rooms would be available for our second night. They weren't. We were stuck in our cells for the duration. (Note:a bizarre renovation is underway. But the quality of the so called improvements is cheap, flimsy and would be laughable if it weren't so sad).

To add insult to injury, on the day before our departure, I requested the 4 star "concierge" to arrange for a driver to transport my family of six to the airport ( a 45 minute drive). I suggested an earlier pickup time, but he insisted that he knew best . We got up that morning and waited... and waited... no show. The doorman checked to find that the expert concierge had booked the wrong time! We desperately scrambled for another ride for the six of us, had a harrowing drive through the clogged Paris morning streets and ran through a crowded DeGualle airport, with our luggage in tow, past security checkpoints and pleaded with scolding airport personnel. A most stressful end to our vacation... all because of our 4 star treatment at the St James- Albany. BEWARE!
