“Fair price and nice stay”
Reviewed 28 May 2014

This hotel is in the Marais district of Paris and is an easy walk to Place de la Bastille and Place des Vosges. The beds are very comfortable, the bathrooms great and the air conditioning worked very well. There is a small fitness club. The staff was always helpful and nearly all spoke fine English.

Room Tip: The rooms are off a large courtyard in the rear so there is no issue with street noise.

Unfortunately we were off to a bad start. Our booking requested a 2nd or 3rd floor room but we were given a 5th floor room obviously not often used. The air conditioning unit cover lay on the floor and the safe had no cover to its batteries. On checking in, our credit card details taken for a deposit of 100 euros, by a receptionist from the card, were declined. We learned later from the Credit company that they had been incorrectly noted. The map to find the garage was difficult to follow and took us three attempts before succeeding. After this things improved. We were given a room on the 3rd floor which was clean and comfortable. Breakfasts were fine but the menu in the restaurant was limited and unchanging. The only lounge was a small area in the reception hall. In good weather the internal open gardens were suitable as a lounge area but only if it was not too cold or raining. To our surprise the hotel had over 250 rooms and was not so much a Parisian hotel but more a cosmopolitan one, suitable for large parties of conference visitors etc. By the end of the week we found it comfortable, clean and pleasant. It was actually placed just north of the Marais area and suitable for walks to the Pompidou centre and Place des Vosges but not for walking to areas further afield such as the Champs Elysees.

Room Tip: Try to get a room facing inwards to the internal garden area.

Firstly let me say that there is nothing wrong with this hotel.
What is always important to keep in mind is that Paris hotels are notoriously average. We booked a Superior room in this hotel in May. It ticked the box. The room was clean (albeit dated) and faced the gardens which are beautiful and we had a balcony with a few of the Eiffel Tower.

Our 'King' bed was two beds pushed together, and the blackout curtains didn't really block the light ... however I don't see this as a big deal in the least. Rooms had microwaves, dishwashers and stoves in case you want to make your own food.

The location is really good - easy to get to from Gare du Nord, close to Bastille and about a 15min walk to Hotel d'Ville.

We didn't have breakfast in the hotel nor drinks but everything looked nice.

All-in-all I'd say this is a perfectly good choice when looking for mid-range accommodation in the heart of Paris.

NOTE: Make sure to request a room that faces the gardens otherwise you will hear the club next door's music all night!!

Also - if you're a light sleeper, be sure to bring ear plugs as the doors are very, very thin - so you can hear everything in the hallway (again, not a deal-breaker for us in the least, but this may be unsettling for some people).

Room Tip: Request a room facing the gardens (the ones facing the street are very noisy)

Just stayed one night but enjoyed the quietness of our room facing the courtyard. The room was pretty large for Paris standards except for the bathroom. The breakfast buffet was awesome and copious ! Great choice of food. Metro or bus stops are a short walk away and the neighborhood is lively.
Even though the check in time is 3pm, we were able to get a room around 12:30pm.

Let's start with the plus side.
Good location with metro next door, local fun bars and nice hotel setup.
What did not hit the above average mark was the desk staff.
No directions to the car park when my wife arrived on her own. Waiting for a taxi ordered from reception which never showed up and the staff totally not concerned about it. A long checkout.
Last but not least, we ordered breakfast in our room on the Saturday and were charged 25E each for some average baguette and soggy croissants and had to beg for some more coffee.
Needless to say we opted for a different option on Sunday.
Will I be back ? No.

If visiting Paris I stay in the Bastille, Marais districts away from touristy Central Paris. The hotel is a genuine jewel and deserves every one of its four stars.

Do not be put off by the area, this is where Parisians, live, eat and socialise and is one of the most laid back districts of Paris. Facilities at the hotel are great, comfort and cleanliness is assured and the staff are efficient and friendly. The central gated courtyard of the hotel is a great place to relax and enjoy a glass of wine, however, the nearest cafe's are friendly and laid back, please pay them a visit.

A visit to Montmartre is a must, jump on the Metro at Bastille, 10 mins to Gare du Norde and walk 15 mins to Montmartre for stunning views across the city, don't miss going into Sacre Cour, truly jaw dropping. Or, visit the huge antiques market at Bastille, 5 mins walk from the hotel.

If you are a Doors fan, it's worth noting that Jim Morrison spent the last three months of his life in the Marais, and died in his apartment a few streets down from Bastille at Rue Beautreillis.

Wonderful boutique hotel; a series of buildings connected by a common entry and cobbled courtyard. Rooms: clean, comfortable and relatively roomy (compared to other hotels in Europe). Guests: mixture of small tour groups, business meetings/functions, airline attendants, ordinary tourists.Staff: one of the most helpful group of staff encountered during our 6 weeks in Europe starting with the wonderful doorman and reception. Location: perfect. Closest metro - turn right from Hotel to corner, left to Pharmacy (no more than 100m) and you are at Saint Sebastien Froissart. (Tip: buy10 trip tickets as they are cheaper and the 10 individual tickets may be shared) Also at this spot (i.e. outside Pharmacy/Metro) is where the (tip supported) excellent free walking tour by Discover Walks leaves everyday at 2.30pm for an hour or more of the Marais district. If you need groceries/wine/ odds and ends there are two well stocked 24/7 stores - one about 200m to right of Hotel and another in the street parallel (where Metro is). Marais is one of the few areas where shops/attractions are open on Sundays - hard to believe Paris city shops are closed on Sundays. We found excellent places to eat with the help of Hotel reception. Reception also arranged our transfer to CDG airport at the end of our stay.
